Those with abnormal NT scans...

This time 2 years ago, I had my NT scan.  It came back abnormal, I think his nuchal fold measured 3.5mm.  I didn't even wait for blood work to come back and did the CVS, he is 100% healthy with NO problems.  They said although his chromosomes are fine, he needed to have 2 fetal echo's done, and they were fine too!

Anyways, the point of my post is you are super likely to have a healthy baby, those NT scans SUCK because they cause so much worry when most of the time, your baby is OK.  I go on Wednesday for this LO and although I'm worried it may come back high, I know the chances are, everything is going to be ok.

Good luck ladies and please don't let your "abnormal" results worry you.  If you google, SO many people are scared into thinking something may be wrong and it ususally isn't.

  • Thank you!  I was starting to get a little worried because my OB didn't offer the NT scan to me.  I guess it is just one less thing I have to stress about!

  • I completely agree with OP and have a pretty similar story, although we declined CVS and an amnio, same result ...a healthy boy....my NT measurement was 3.3mm

  • With my last son I did the NT scan, the scan was normal, but my blood test came back for increased risk for downs. Then at the 20 week ultrasound they found a very soft marker for downs. We opted to not do an amnio due to our ultrasound with the perinatologist was good. All I have to say is this caused me to worry and a black cloud hung over my pregnancy. Needless to say my baby was perfect.

This time around my husband and I decided not to do any testing. I would rather find out when I had the baby rather than worry the entire pregnancy. Also working in the NICU there are many times  that they are unable to ID syndromes from chromosomes so there are no guarantees that your baby is fine! One mom had some markers did the amnio and the baby still had a syndrome.
