We are flying to Washington next week with both girls. I've never traveled with kids before, so I'm not really sure about a few things.
I know we can gate check 1 stroller per kid once we are there. My question is, is it better to take an umbrella each or my double through the airport and to the gate? If you've traveled with kids before, have you used a full-sized stroller? How has it worked out? I'm just not sure what to do. We really need the 2 seats because we'll be doing a lot of walking and sightseeing and my 3-year-old just won't be able to do it all on foot.
Thanks for any advise!!

Re: Traveling Question
I have a similar question since we've only flown/traveled with DS alone. We just brought our Uppa G-lite to NYC and Disney with him and it was fine. Didn't want them messing up our expensive strollers and they were easier to travel with overall. We are thinking of going to NYC with the kids in November, but debating the double stroller. I remember reading somewhere that some airlines are no longer allowing doubles or bigger strollers as free gate checks anymore, so I'd look into that.
My biggest question is how to travel with two convertible car seats. We used to gate check those too b/c I don't like the idea of them throwing them around with general luggage. If I don't have the double, then I don't know how I'd contain DS while DH went to get the rental car.
We're bringing both convertibles onto the plane, which is why I'm trying to figure out a way to contain both kids too! Just the idea of walking through the airport with 2 kids, 2 convertible car seats, a diaper bag, my purse, etc....it's scary! I figure if I can have both girls in 1 stroller, DH can carry both car seats and we can load up the stroller with the diaper bag, my purse, etc, which will make things at least easier.
I'll call the airline, thank you! I was worried that the double would be an issue - it's a sit and stand so it's tall when it's folded up.

Hmm, my husband would kill me if he knew that I was thinking of getting yet another stroller just for this trip!
Our double is the BJ City Mini, but I love it b/c I know DS will nap in it (the baby not so much).
This is what we used in the airport with the convertible. https://www.amazon.com/SafeFit-Car-Seat-Travel-Tote/dp/B001DF7LGW/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1314974184&sr=8-8I have a bad back lately, so we're screwed!
Ha, trust me I'm not thinking of buying a new one! We already have 2 cheapie umbrellas and the sns.
I LOVE the travel bag though! I'm going to have to see if I can find it or something like it in a store, though, since we are leaving on Tuesday. Last minute planning, haha!
Thanks for all the help ladies!

LOL, I meant I was considering another stroller on top of our BOB, BJ City Mini Double, Uppa G-lite, Uppa G-luxe and Snap N' Go (which will be retired by the time of our trip unfortunately).
Do you have a Buy Buy Baby near you? I think we either got it there or BRU.
Because our family is all over the country I've traveled with my boys 3-4 times a year since they were born, often alone. Up until about 6 months ago, I always brought my double stroller. I have never ever had an issue with damage because when you bring the stroller to the gate, someone literally carries it from the gate down the stairs to the plane and then when you arrive someone carries it back up. So it's never on a belt or being handled poorly. It's probably the best handled luggage on that plane.
So I would bring the double so that I could strap both kids into the seat if I needed to. Now my 3.5 year old won't get into a stroller and he can walk far so it's not an issue and we only bring on umbrella stroller and carry the younger one if for some reason my older one is giving me problems and I need to strap him in.
We don't however bring carseats onto the plane. I have no idea how you do that with 2 kids and all the other stuff we've needed to bring. I have used the CARES straps but they were only mildly useful. We just check our careseats and make sure they put them in plastic bags at checkin so that none of the straps get ruined or dirty. We've never had an issue.
LOL Ok, that makes more sense.
We have a few BRUs nearby. I'm on hold with them right now, actually haha! Fingers crossed.
