Is the Disney Movie Club a rip off?

Anyone get movies through them?  DD is now totally getting into Cinderealla etc, and I was thinking this was an easier way to collect the classics (other than going to Target). I assume you must sign up to order a movie a month (after you receive the initial ones cheap).  But is there another catch?  Is it a total scam?

  • You don't have to order a movie a month. You just need to buy like 4 additional movies at club price. You can still get the sales that go on each month too for other DVDs. When I order movies for DS, I try and order them in bundles, so the extra ones are cheaper.

This! You have a certain amount of time to order 4 movies at full price- I think 2 years? If not you get charged that amount at the end of the 2 years. They send you a thing each month that is the movie of the month, and you have to specifically say that you DON'T want it if you don't, otherwise they charge you and mail it anyway. You can send it back for a refund if you want if you haven't opened it.

They always have movies on sale, though, especially themed ones around holidays.

I have had it for 3 years and love it :)

  • I was looking at this through swagbucks, it seems like the choices for the first 5 movies was pretty limited.  Not sure if this was because of the swagbucks offer?? Anyone know?  I just want to insure there is more of a selection when I have to buy the additional ones.

  • I added up what it would cost and I think it averages out to about $15 per DVD once you've paid the fees and that's only if your additional DVDs are the cheapest ones at $19.99. To me that isn't worth it because I can find sales on a lot of those DVDs for $15 or less. Plus, I didn't see a ton of the classics on there. It's probably not a rip off, but I don't think it saves you a ton of money in the end.
