I owe this board a Thank You

...and some delicious cookies because you helped me out a lot.

My plan had been to get Clomid from my OB/GYN and do it unmonitored, which is what she had recommended (well, more like mandated). Lurking and posting on this board prompted me to seek out an RE - something I thought would be a good step in the right direction that would provide the necessary monitoring.

This morning I genuinely had the best appointment of my life. It was my CD3 baseline ultrasound and blood test, and from the moment I walked in I felt like a person! The DOCTOR did the ultrasound (I have never, ever had anyone but a tech do them before), and not only was it not uncomfortable, he had a monitor on the wall where he could show me my uterine lining and my ovaries (19 follies on right, 35 on left, which seems like a lot, but I guess it's typical for PCOS), and he answered my questions! No "Is that normal?" "I can't tell you that." or "I can't discuss it" but he actually volunteered the information. Then I had a blood test and the results were in hours later - and the RE called me himself!

Obviously I didn't know what I was missing, but I truly want to thank the ladies on this board who push monitoring and RE appts. I would not have pursued this had it not been for your kind support for the Clomid newbies. I want you to know that you have provided me with something I haven't had in a year - peace of mind with my medical clinic. Thank you!!

  • That is awsome!

I (ignorant at the time) had 3 unmonitored clomid cycles with my OB/GYN before I went to an RE.  I'm so thankful that I didn't end up with sixtuplets!

I really wish OB/GYNs would just admit that they are not the experts on that particular subject, or if they insist on prescribing clomid, to at minimum monitor their patients while on it.

Other than message boards, and educating patients . . . what can we really do to stop OB/GYNs from doing this!?!?!?

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid.  Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth.  If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP.  My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
