My sweet, precious DD1 is turning into a handful. She has always had the sweetest disposition and has been very easy going. About a month ago she started acting very aggressive with DD2. At that time DD2 was going through a biting phase, so I chalked it up to being bitten. The problem is that the behavior has continued and has even escalated. DD1 now smacks, yells, hits and kicks when she doesn't want to share. This is with DH, myself, DD2 or any of her "friends". She doesn't go to daycare or preschool and isn't around a lot of kids her age.
We are always very consistent about our discipline. "Acting out" like this always warrants a time out, we ask her what behavior landed her in time out (she always answers appropriately), she apologizes to the person that she has "hurt", gives a hug and then we move back to playing.
What in the world am I doing wrong or do you have suggestions?
TIA!
Re: Aggressive almost 3 year old
SOunds like she's got a case of the threes. My #1 has always been sweet and polite. Affectionate and gentle. the first 5-6 months of her being three were hell. OCD to the nth degree, loud explosive tantrums, slappy hands, mean mean words. After 2-3 months I was beginning to think she actually had some sort of disorder. I secretly cried because anyone else saw my kid and gushed at how sweet and good she was, my DH began to have explosive tantrums too because of it, and I didn't want him to freak out that something was wrong. I went and bought every single book about toddler development. I like to think she is unique and extraordinary and that no book could define her but here she was:
