I work part time now. Being home when the kids get home from school is a huge thing. I will only accept a full time job (when my baby starts 1st grade) if I am able to have flex hours (which is pretty common in my field, so shouldnt be impossible) so I can be home when the kids get off the bus. DH will be home in the mornings, as he doesnt work until 9 so he would do drop off.
Having a parent home when the kids are not at school is important to me, but I do want the benefit of 2 full time incomes again.
I'm am "unknown/SS". MH says unless I "have to" due to him losing his job or something catastrophic, he doesn't care if I never go back. More than likely I will, but it may be somewhere I enjoy working versus the corporate world again.
I will likely land somewhere part-time to full time. However, I would like to be my own boss so that I have flexibility and the ability to participate with events and activities at school when my LO's are at that age. I'd also like to be around a lot during the summer which is also why I want to be self-employed.
Our first baby girl, Lucia Joy, joined us on April 1, 2010!
SS: I might go back part time when the kids are in school, but I want to be home when they leave and when they get home. As my first is only 4 months old, I haven't fully made a decision yet.
I would love to start another business b/c of the flexibility. Not really interested in working for somebody else again though, but will do it if I need experience or want to test out another field.
DS born via c/s 11/08 and med-free GD VBAC DD 3/11!
I own my own business (home organizing) and also help my mom run our family business (lake marina/boat storage), but I do it three days a week. So I'm a PT WAHM and PT SAHM.

I WAH part-time now, and will do more (out of the home) when all the kids are in school. Because I'm self-employed, I can pick my hours.
Ideally, I think I'd like to work school hours 4 days a week when the kids are all in school. That would mean I would be home when they got home, and one day a week I'd have a kid-free day to do all of the major weekly cleaning so we'd have more quality time the rest of the time.
I voted yes, but things could change. I like working outside the home, but I want to be home full time until the kids are all in school. Then, I'd still like to be home when they get home from school.
I was in science and technology before being a SAHM. I think I'd like to go back to school for nursing. I have a good background in science for it already. It's kind of always been a dream of mine but I've always chickened out on going back to school. It would also be very flexible hours and I think I could easily find part time work in the field.
I work now, so I guess I don't fully qualify to answer this.
I plan to always work PT, but since I am self-employed, I can change my definition of PT as it fits our lives. I've worked as little as 1.5 hrs per week and as much as 25 since working PT. I don't see myself really ever going over 25 hrs. I do however see myself hiring therapists to work for me while I stay at home more (and still make money) - kind of like a pimp, I guess.
I WAH now, part-time, but it won't be a forever-thing. The company is small, locally owned by someone who is very near retirement and dissolving the company.
I do not anticipate going back to work once the kids are in school, unless it's temporary for a couple of reasons.
A) I think kids still need to have their parent readily available to them, possibly even moreso during the teenage years than as a young child. I want to be able to be active in whatever they are doing at school and able to keep good tabs on them.
With DH's and DD's bone-condition, anybody can break at anytime and require six weeks of care and there aren't many employers who will be open to taking off time like that. If it were something temporary, I could definitely do it but something full-time and long-term isn't in the cards.
We are happy with DH's salary and benefits. If something were to happen to change that, then I would definitely go to work and do what needed to be done. He's been with the state for 15 years, though, so he *should* be okay. (who knows in this day and age)

I'll probably go back part time, but not until the kids are way older, like HS/college age. At that point it will be more to fill time and use my mind than for the income.
I don't plan on going back to work for money unless something drastic happens to us financially but I assume that I will probably get a part-time job volunteering in some capacity.
Yes, I absolutely plan on going back to work full time someday. My plan right now is to stay home until DD starts kindergarten (in 5 years) unless we have baby #2, then when he/she starts school. I don't know why I would stay home if my kid(s) were in school full time. I also would like to contribute to our income again and start building up our savings again. Besides, I have a BA degree and would hate for all those years of college to go completely to waste.

Yep, thats exactly what all of the college educated women on this board are doing...wasting it.

This is kind of what I was thinking. I will be in my late 40's when my youngest starts college. I can't imagine that I will want to stay at home with just DH and I for the next 40 years.
I am new to this gig but I will go back to work. As far as when IDK yet, I am fortunate to have the choice if I wanna work at all but it is in me to have a career. Im starting Grad school in Accounting in January so that I can get my CPA, which makes me excited. I guess I'm weird lol

There always needs to be a SS!

Ditto this. It is not the sq footage we need, it is 3 girls and 2 bathrooms (love to have a master!).

I'm a SS, too

This is very similar to what I hope to do.
