We've been on the 'every three hours' schedule for feedings, but lately LO just doesn't want to eat at night. He'll just hold the bottle in his mouth, but won't actually eat anything, and he just falls back asleep. If we unwrap him and try and keep him awake, he just gets really fussy, and then he'll eat maybe an ounce. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that once your baby gets back to or past their birth weight, you can let them sleep for longer at night. Like, until they wake up because they're hungry. Has anyone else heard this? When did you start letting your LO sleep longer at night? It makes me nervous because he's only 2 weeks old, but he just isn't hungry... He'll eat like a champ when it's day, 4-6 oz per feeding, but he's just a loaf at night, lol!
How many times per day does your little one eat? I am having the same problem, however, she is only eating 3 oz. per serving. I wonder if she is getting enough.. She seems satisfied. During the night she wakes up on schedule but during the day she naps and sleeps for what seems like forever.
Before we left the hospital I was told to let baby sleep as long as he wanted at night. Right away he was sleeping 5 hours regularly without waking. Your LO sounds like mine. He was and is an eating machine during the day! (Now sleeping 7-8 hours no interruptions!) Consider yourself blessed! No worries as long as he is healthy and happy!
I let mine sleep after day 2 when I realized waking her up to eat at night was a giant PITA, made everyone crabby and she still didn't want to eat anyways.
My pedi told me any full term baby without health issues that hasn't lost more than 10% of their body weight will wake itself to eat at night.
Once DS got past his birth weight again, we stopped waking him up to eat. He still wakes up every 4-5 hours like clockwork to eat. I was worried he wouldnt wake up to eat...Haha...he definitely lets me know that he is hungry.
