I'm surprised by the results of my poll on honesty

Anyone else?  Based on the results, 1 in 10 of us is a creep who is being dishonest about at least one thing (not counting, of course, name, identifying details, etc., since the poll was about personality, ideas, and finances).  That's actually a lot higher than I thought it would be.  What do you think?  What would be the point of being dishonest on here?

  • Maybe some people are trying to cultivate a "personality" on the Bump that is a fantasy??  I don't get it.

  • I'm rarely, if ever, dishonest about things on here.  I don't see the point and I don't have the time.

From my time on these message boards though, I have seen enough to know that there are a LOT of people out there who lie about certain things on here so that others think more highly of them.  I don't understand what is so important about internet strangers thinking you are cool, but apparently a lot of people want that *status*!

  • A lot of people post identifying info.

I would assume that some who had that info out there wouldn't want to admit to being completely broke, KWIM? Or maybe they don't want to confess some unpopular opinion in fears that someone lurking would know it was them/how they felt about something. Or if they made a friendship from here, they might not want to confess an unpopular opinion if it would offend a bump friend.

Just my guess. I don't really know.

That makes sense.  As far as I know, I don't actually know anyone else on the bump, so I didn't even think of that possibility.

I agree with you MrsBalletStar (if that's your real name).

  • I'm surprised too. I don't see the benefit in lying. If you are embarrassed of something, just don't post about it at all, KWIM? There is no requirement to chime in on any subject. Soo if you are ashamed of your financial situation, don't do the threads about $$, etc.

    Oh well. :-)
