Child Care in Hyde Park/Oakley

I am 9 weeks pregnant and am planning on being a working mom.  After doing some research I am finding out that some daycare centers have a 1 year waiting list! So, I am trying to start looking into childcare options for when my maternity leave is over (June-ish 2012). Not sure I want to do the whole corporate daycare thing (Goddard, etc.). Any suggestions for reliable/safe places to look for people who operate a home daycare? Or a place to look for Nannies?

Re: Child Care in Hyde Park/Oakley

  • We found all our sitters on www.care.com

  • Side-eye me all you want, but we've had great luck finding care providers (in-home and nannies) through cincinnati.momslikeme.com and craigslist (yes, you *heard* me).

  • I don't specifically know of anyone in your area, but I would ask any parent-friends in Hyde Park/Oakley or any parents that you work with, assuming you have revealed your pregnancy already, or waiting until you do and then ask around.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!  How exciting!

  • Asking around is a good way to find in home providers., but we've only used centers. I live in Oakley and started out with DD at Hyde Park PS, but ended up switching to CELC in East Walnut Hills. There were a lot of reasons why we made the move, but CELC really feels like home to us. It is pretty expensive compared to what's out there, but we LOVE it.

FWIW, the waitlists are not an exact science. CELC was supposed to be 4-6 months and HPPS was supposed to be 9mos - 1 yr, but we got into HPPS in 6 months and CELC didn't have a spot for us until 9 mos in.

So, for centers, I would recommend getting on a few waiting lists of places you like and just waiting to see how it all works out.

If you want more details on my experiences at HPPS and CELC, I'll send you a PM with my email and just email me with any questions.
