February 2012 Moms

my first diaper..lol

So I've never changed a diaper.  I was the youngest by 11 years so even all my cousins were way older.  Anybody else have no experience with little ones?

I had ordered some diapers when they were on discount off of amazon and they have been sitting in the entry way.  I opened them tonight and the smallest I got was a size 1.  I took one out and I just can't believe how small they were!  I diapered a build a bear I had gotten my fiance for christmas last year.  He had to remind me not to pull the baby around by the legs/arm doh:)

  • I never have, either. I'm an only child, and didn't really know my cousins at all.

DH has three younger sibs, though, and two of 'em are 9 and 10yrs younger than him, so he's got a LOT of experience at it... ;) I'm hoping I can con him into "showing me how it's done" a fair few times before I have to try it myself, lol.

Trying it on a stuffed bear is a really great idea, though!! Was it less intimidating after??

  • Neither DH or I have ever put a diaper on a baby.  I've worked at a preschool for a year and a half, so I have done a lot of diapers.  However, I am sure that diapering a newborn is going to be much different than a child that is all ready three years old.  Glad to hear that we are not the only ones with no experience.

  • You will be fine.  DH didn't have any experience, but ended up doing all of the diapers the first few days because I was so exhausted.  His Mom said that he tried to put in on backwards a couple of times, but she intervened and by the end of week one he was an expert.

Other than the screaming (most of them don't like the cold air on their tush in the beginning), they are pretty easy at that age....now when they can roll over and try to crawl away- that is when it gets interesting. :b

  • I've only worked with adults that need assistance, so I'm used to changing people that are 30 years+! Changing a baby should be a breeze after 5 years of that.

  • Haha sounds like you did alright for your first one! Are there parenting classes in your area that you can attend to get more practice (not just in diapering, but burping, holding baby, etc)? It may be a good idea if you've never spent any length of time with a baby.

I don't know if it less intimidating but at least I think I know which side is front and back now! lol.  Probably will try it a few more times before the lo gets here and I'm sure I'll get we will all get up to speed on it pretty quick after they show up!

Yea, we have started taking birthing classes but will do the parenting classes at some point.  I've only been around my friends babies a little bit but have never even babysat babies (they have asked but I'm too chicken).  I think I'll be more comfortable with my own though!  (I hope!)!
