diaper bag recommendations?

I have been carrying the same diaper bag for 3.5 years now, and it is getting a little worn.  Baby #3 is due in another 2 months, so we will be getting plenty of use out of another one.

Anyone have any good recommendations?  Is it worth it to buy the >$100 diaper bags?  Are they really that much better than the $30 bags?

Re: diaper bag recommendations?

  • I had no idea you were pregnant! Congrats:)

I do not have this diaper bag but a friend has it and I really want it but kind of dont want to buy one since we done with 2. Anyway, its called a Timi & Leslie 2 in 1 backpack. Its a regular bag but converts to a backpack and it comes with straps for the stroller too. They come in super cute patterns and its under $100. I thought it was really cool! I have a Skip Hop Duo Deluxe and I like it but I have always wanted a backpack diaper bag just never found one I really liked until I saw this one.

  • I got a lands end bag and had it embroidered with my initials. My criteria was washable. Have you smelled spilled milk in a diaper bag? I have too many times. My bag was like $20 and it has snaps to make it larger or smaller.

  • My husband got me a Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack (I never would've spent that much $$ on myself) and I love, love, loved it.  We still use it as an overnight bag when she goes to Grandma's.

You can wear it as a messenger or a backpack.  The diaper changing is velcro'd in so it's easy to take it out completely if you want or just unroll it onto the changing table while it's still connected.  Has large outside pockets for odds and ends.  A clip for your keys so they don't fall to the bottom.  And just generally a great bag.

  • I really wanted to get a Stork Sak diaper bag but just couldn't justify the $200 price tag when we have all the other extra baby expenses. So instead I bought the FAO Schwarz diaper bag from BRU. Here is a link but I got it in black. It is really good quality and has tons of pockets so it holds a lot. Plus the inside is red so you can see what is inside and avoid the "black hole". It has the handles shown in the picture but it also comes with a longer padded shoulder strap and stroller straps also. The best part was it was under $30 and doesn't feel or look cheap.
  • I have the Skip Hop Studio Tote and have really enjoyed it.  I get compliments on how cute it is and it holds everything.  And has tons of compartments.  I have 2 kids so I tote plenty of junk in there and it works great.  And it's less than $100.

  • I have a PBK ultimate diaper bag and it's awesome! It is a great size with pockets in all the right places. It was my purse for a long time and I plan to use it again. I also like the stain resistant fabric b/c it's not that plastic coated stuff like you see on some and it's much sturdier than plain old fabric. Last time I checked it was in the $50 range. I think it's worth it.

  • I have 8 diaper bags. My top 3 are:

    - Mia Bossi Maria

    - Timi & Leslie Ruby Patent

    - Storksak Emily

I am not a "backpack" type of girl at all. I'm a shoe and bag girl, so "messenger" fits me better. If I need a more casual bag, I have a Skip Hop Duo that I use.

I also have a Caden Lane bowler, Born Out of Necessity leather diaper bag, Fleurville Mothership and another Skip Hop.

I also like the Nest diaper bags, but they came out after I had L...........

All of my diaper bags have been over $100 with the exception of the Skip Hop bags.

  • I have two that I use now-a black Storksak and a brown leather Mia Bossi (not sure of the styles). I like bags that don't really look like diaper bags and I do not like back packs at all. I did have a Skip Hop, but the zipper broke off after a couple months.

Thanks!  The baby is due at the end of November, and we are really excited.

I am going to have to check out all of these bags on the internet.   lol...and somehow I knew you had 8 diaper bags Harriet :)  I love how you do this whole mom thing.

  • I have tons of diaper bags too.  :)  My favorites are my Fleurville and my Skip Hops (I have 3 different styles).  I have two Kate Spades that are cute, but not very functional, two small Carter's bags that are fine now that I just need a few diapers, and a couple other random bags I rarely use.

My must have features are the stroller straps and lots of pockets.

  • Thanks for asking this!  Now that I have the whole stroller thing figured out, I'm on to obsessing about diaper bags and can't make a decision.

I agree with the lots of pockets, but you don't need stroller straps. There are so many "after-market" clips for strollers that you can hang any bag from a stroller........

I have the Slide Tote Bag by Go GaGa and I LOVE it. Mostly because of the strap. Its amazing. I could carry this bag all day and DH will carry it no questions asked, no complaining. That was huge for me. Its very roomy, has a big side pocket, 2 smaller pockets in front and two bottle pockets. It has two straps that can be used to hook to stiller or carry a blanket or yoga mat. Its totally worth the price. I've been using it 8 months now and it still looks brand new. Gogagalife.com

  • I love the vera bradley diaper bags, but recently wanted a backpack diaper bag and love the Mrs. Smiths. It has a "built in lunchbox" on the bottom.
