Success after IF

Worst.Parents.Ever

Miles made it all the way to his sitter's house today before Brad realized he wasn't strapped into his carseat.  Ugh.  How horrible do we feel?!  Worst part is it isn't the first time.  Gosh...we feel awful...poor little guy.  How freaking dangerous.  It makes my heart sink to think about what could have happened.  I'm going to have to make a checklist before we leave anywhere.

Re: Worst.Parents.Ever

  • Aww...don't beat yourself up over it...happened to us once, too. We had put a blanket over her in the car seat after leaving church, and when we got to the store...oops! We gave ourselves the "bad parent" award for the day.

  • Add me to the list!

Just wait until he's talking and starts whining in the back seat "Momma CLICK!!"

Yup....  I'm the winner mother that's had to pull over to click him in.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I totally did that too!  Only once thank God!
  • I think it happens to every parent.  It's just the best reason to always drive safe with kids! Big Smile
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • Don't be to hard on yourself.  We did it too.  We had the girls in the carrier in the stroller and I took Karly out to change her and handed her to dh.  He just layed her back in the carrier and we went shopping.  She was then put into the car without being strapped.  It feels awful but everyone makes mistakes, we just made an effort not to do it again.

  • Don't be too hard on yourself!  I haven't done that but I did walk away from the baby (3 months old) on the very high changing table to get the water for his bath going (and oh by the way I think I'll pee while I'm in the bathroom) and THUMMMMMP! went the baby onto the floor!  It was the first day he ever rolled over and it was right onto the floor suffering only a bump on the head and a big scare (I've never peed so fast in my life).  I felt terrible for walking away and then I realized, these things happen!  I've never walked away since!

  • My baby who doesn't roll over yet somehow fell off the couch a few weeks ago. He happened to land of a big blanket, but  I cried more than he did.

We all make mistakes, and if these are the worst ones that we make...we will all be amazing parents.

  • I did it, too. My mom was playing with him in the store and I saw her unstrap him, but forgot...

Now I make sure whenever I click him in, I tighten the straps, sort of as a mental reminder to be sure they  are not only tight, but hooked!

  • I imagine leaving the baby somewhere...highly possible since i'm not used to having one:)

    You're a great parent...

  • I remember doing this a bunch of times when Lilly was a baby. It's awful, I know...and the worst part is, my sister caught me twice and she's the Queen of Motherhood with 3 children. I would always feel like a bad mom. After the third time I beat myself up enough that I never did it again.
