Toys / Books / Activities for 2-yr old

Going to a big consignment sale today and I'm going to stock up on clothes.  There are tons of toys, games, books, etc so I'd like to pick up some too.

What are some toys & activities that your 2 yr old children are into?

In terms of books, at 2 yrs old, are they still into rhyming?  Any certain type of books I should buy?

TIA!

Re: Toys / Books / Activities for 2-yr old

  • Our kids still like rhyming books.  They like puzzles.  They like animal noises and they are starting to pay attention to colors.  They like flap books but I have to really watch DD or she rips them ALL off, LOL.

  • DS loves his board books about counting and shapes. He is soaking up info like a little sponge these days so anything education is good. He also is really liking puzzles. We have an ABC puzzle and we do the puzzle and then draw the letters on his Aquadoodle mat as we put them in the right spots. He is also really into finger paints, Thomas the train/tracks, his basketball hoop and playdough.
  • My son's 2.5.  He's really starting to like his Mega Blocks.  He plays a lot with his cozy coup and tricycle outside.  He likes short story books.  One of his favorites is "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".  He likes his wood puzzles, kitchen, and shopping cart a lot.  He also likes his train.

  • He has more books, of all kinds, than we know what to do with.

Activity wise we have an art appreciation book - shows famous works of art then has activities to do to copy the art for kids, and an anatomy coloring book. He also really likes different kinds of flash cards.

  • agreed with the pp that around 2 is when she started getting interested in longer "story" books with real paper, instead of the board books.  she still has her favorites with the board books and lift-the-flap books, but it was nice being able to read actual stories!

this is also when my DD really started going nuts with pretending, so things like dolls/dollhouse (pretend play is so helpful for them to learn language, act out their feelings, etc)... play kitchen... puppets...  stuff like that.  good luck!  i love great consignment sales!!!!
