I got a few items at my baby shower that I want to return. Some I have gift receipts for and some I don't, but I know all were purchased at Target. I don't have a registry. Will they allow me to return the items I don't have receipts for?
They will, but they only allow you to $150 worth of those types of return in one year. So if you've made other returns to Target without a receipt it goes towards that $150 (unless you paid on a credit card and they looked it up, that counts as a "receipt"). And if you have more than $150 worth of the returns, they blacklist you for the rest of the year meaning you can't return anything else without a receipt until the year renews. I'm not sure if they do fiscal year or calendar year. I'm assuming calendar year (i.e., it renews in January) because that would be easier for the general consumer to remember.
This is my experience and the experiences of some of the people I know. If someone on the site works at Target they may know better, but that's what I've been able to figure out so far!

They have a dollar limit threshold for returns... I think it is $75.00 for the year.
If you have a gift receipt - then those won't go against the $75 (or however much it is) threshold - it's only if you have no receipt whatsoever, then it goes in the system and tracks with your DL #. I know it's rude, but f it's a large item and you know who bought it (maybe it's your parents/sibling and you would feel comfortable doing this?) - see if they will return it and give you the store credit. Target can look up the item on their credit card if they no longer have the receipt.
Also - your DH also has the $75 annual limit, so you could have him put some on his DL#, as well.
I don't know if this would work - but could you create a registry with these items, then mark them bought, then return it from the registry? I am not sure if they have the same "no receipt" rules with the registry items.

I was wondering about this as well; thanks for the idea!

I saw this online at the target registry site, but not sure how much it holds water!
"easy returns & exchanges.
We promise no-fuss returns and exchanges ? with or without a receipt ? in store or by mail."
"You can use your Gift Purchase Log to make a limited number of no-receipt returns.
To return registry gifts at a Target store, you can use a Gift Receipt or your Gift Purchase Log. Your Gift Purchase Log is a list of all the gifts your friends and family told us about at the time of purchase. You can print your Gift Purchase Log anytime from Target.com or at a store kiosk and use it just like a receipt?all you need is your registry password. Make sure you also have a photo ID and that your items are new, unused and in original packaging with any accessories."
Me thinks that means if you just mark it as bought on the registry, it won't be on the Gift Purchase Log since it wasn't linked to the sale at the time of the sale, so my guess is that they will treat those as normal non-receipt returns, since they can't find a transaction linked with that item to prove it was bought there (and for how much).
And the general policy just says that non-receipt returns are "limited", so it doesn't list the $ threshhold, but I know there is one - it's at least $75 - I have not heard about the $150 before, but they could have changed it.
You'll just have to take it up there and see what they say. :-/
If you registered there, just add the items to your registry and mark it as bought. When you go to the store, you can print off a gift log at the registry computers, which acts like a gift receipt.
I don't think it is a $75 per year limit, but I believe there is a $75 item limit. I know there is a per year limit, but I am not sure how much that is.

This actually doesn't work. When you manually mark it as sold, it doesn't come off the "gift purchase log" and still counts against you.

I used to work at target a couple of years ago, and the policy changes all the time. there is a limit of items and $ amount per person per year. if you did register you can print your gift purchase log those will not count as your per year returns. for the items without a receipt you will receive the lowest price that the item has been at, so if it was on sale sometime within the past 90 days you will receive the sale price or if it was on clearnce, at any store, you will receive the clearance price.
when you go to return/exchange the items explain your situation to the person and they will be able to explain things better, clearer and more up to date. it also helps to be very nice. when i worked there if people were rude i would not go out of my way to help, but when they were nice i would try my best to help them.

Hopefully you get a nice person at the counter! I had to make several returns from my wedding registry and they made us do something different every time. Sometimes the cashier was rude if I asked them to explain anything, like why there was a different procedure than the last time we were there. I must say... I like Target's products but sometimes they are a pain to deal with (even with a registry).
