If you've flown w/shots before

How did you pack them?

I have the letter from the doctors explaining why I have them and a cold pack, but l'm not sure what to pack everything in?  Like an insulated lunch bag?!  What did you do?

Also, how was it going through security?  I'm a bit anxious about this! Smile

Thanks!

Re: If you've flown w/shots before

  • I flew with Lupron (and needles) earlier this year.  My nurse said that I did not need to keep it refridgerated during the flight, only upon arrival.

It was actually really easy.  I just made sure I packed the meds and needles together and had the prescription label available.  I held it in my carry-on bag and was not questioned at either airport I traveled through.  I don't even think I separated it going through security.

  • I've travelled several times, with lupron/insulin needles as well as the IM needles and medications. I had a note from the doctor as well as all prescriptions handy. I packed the stuff that needed to stay cool in an insulated lunch thing with an ice pack and threw it all into my carry-on. Sometimes I'm searched (surprisingly it's usually the ice pack that they care the most about), or swabbed to ensure the drugs are all legit and sometimes nothing. I almost always let them know as I put it through that I have needles and medication in there as well documentation for it.
2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!

  • Thanks...Yeah I will probably tell them up front I guess.  I will have a LOT.  My lupron vial, menopur vials, follistim pen and cartridges, and my IM trigger meds...and of course all the syringes, needles, etc. that go with them.

    Ugh.

    **PAIF/SAIF Welcome**
  • I packed the meds (they had to show the prescription on them) in a cooler pack with the needles and everything.  I had my letter from my doctor as directed.  On the way there, the security guy briefly looked at the letter.  On the way back, they just asked what was in my cooler.  Once I told them, they put it through the x-ray machine.

My lupron was opened so it was supposed to be kept cool.  My lovenox did not need to be refrigerated, but could be kept a little cooler for while.  If you are taking PIO, you will need to keep it out of the cooler for sure!

    Good luck!
