We are going to be on the airplane for 5 hours each way with DS and we just got a portable DVD player so I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for videos their toddler enjoys. We plan to get the LeapFrog set of 3 DVDs - Letter Factory, School, and one other I can't recall. These are short. I would also like to bring a movie that is a bit longer in case he might be interested. He doesn't watch a ton of TV/movies so it should be a novelty for him and keep him entertained.
If I were to bring a Disney movie (he saw a clip of Beauty and the Beast, parts of which I think are too scary for a toddler, and LOVED the singing and the characters) which would you recommend that is not scary? Dumbo? I know it's sad but not scary that I recall. Or maybe Bambi? He is very into animals right now. TIA!

DS loves Cars. He watches 2 "shows" a day usually... 1/2 hour shows like Fraggle Rock or Yo Gabba Gabba - one just after breakfast and one after his afternoon nap. I always sit and watch with him.
He doesn't typically sit through a full length movie (which is ok by me!) but Cars holds his attention for a while.
Where did you get Rio for five bucks?
DD loves the Tinker Bell movies -- I know they're not traditionally "boy-ish," but one of the little boys in her playgroup likes them too. I think the Great Fairy Rescue is the best -- seems to keep DD's attention the whole time.
DD also loves Princess and the Frog (a Disney movie) -- it has a few mildly scary parts, but nothing bad. For most of the movie the "princess" and the prince are hopping around the bayou as frogs, which is pretty entertaning for toddlers.
If your son is into Pooh Bear at all, there are several Pooh Bear movies -- you could probably even check them out from your local library. DD likes Piglet's Big Movie, but they're probably all good if your kid is into Pooh!
Also -- I'm pretty sure the Elmo DVD's have several episodes on them, so they're maybe an hour long. There's also at least one Elmo movie -- I can't remember the name, but it's a Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa one that has Kelly Ripa in it, strangely enough.
They do have Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD's - they are a lifesaver for us when we travel. DS also loves Monster's Inc. and Shrek. He is fascinated by Up.
DS is really into animals right now too. I found he likes non-animated movies best and will really sit and watch them intently. We watch Benji (there are just a few scary parts). What about:
Lassie
Milo & Otis
Rin Tin-Tin
Dr. Doolittle
Homeward Bound
(I know, so many dog movies)
Babe (the pig movie)
Beethoven (one of my faves!)
DS's Faves-
Cars
Toy Story (1-3).
Finding Nemo
Bug's Life
Monsters Inc
