Question about PT kids at school

My DD will be starting preschool in 2 weeks. She is 100% PT (as in no accidents, goes on her own without prompting, etc) but we still help her wipe after #2 because she can't really reach to clean well enough and for whatever reason when she poops tries to wipe back to front (she knows to go front to back and does this correctly after pee).  She has had a couple UTIs all ready and I don't want her to get another one so we tend to wipe for her after she poops and not push her to do that herself. My question is what to expect from preschool in regards to this? It's only 2 mornings a week so the liklihood of her pooping there regularly is slim, but in a year, it's bound to happen. What is your experience?

Re: Question about PT kids at school

  • This is a question for your preschool teacher or director, as every school has a different policy. Some are great with potty help and others have a no-help policy.

  • DD started pre-school last year at age 2 and the teachers help wipe with #2, with gloves on. I know because DD has told me all about it and makes a big production out of putting on her pretend gloves so she can help her dolls "go potty."

You should definitely ask, though, especially if your child is on the young side for her class. DD was in a classroom of all 2-year-olds, many of whom were very freshly PT'd when school started last fall.

  • DS is getting ready to move up to the 2's room and I'm pretty certain they help with wiping (gloves on) but not in the 3's room.
