I need a breast pump like ASAP since she can arrive any day now. Which ones would you ladies reccomend? I know there is one called Medula I think and Laniosh I could be wrong. As an FTM I am confused what is out there and what works best. I would like an electrical type model and I guess double pumping action makes the most sense. Don't want and cannot really afford to spend all that much, but quality, ease of use and being able to extract the most amount of useable milk is my # 1 concern. TIA

I went back and forth between springing for the Medela and the cheaper Lansinoh. I ended up getting the Lansinoh double electric thanks to a ton of good reviews from the working mom's board. I think I got it for like $95 with free shipping on allbebaby or diapers.com. If you are going back to work you definitely need a double electric pump and you'll want something dependable.
The medela has some up sides such as the fact that the parts are available at most stores. With Lansinoh you'll need to order some extra parts online so you have them on hand. In general you'll need to change out the valves and diaphragms every few months for optimum use of any pump. The Lansinoh is a closed system pump which means the milk never gets into the tubing. That means that you don't have to wash tubing YAY! The Lansinoh has been a great pump for me.
I have a few friends who went with Medela because of the hands free feature, but really any pump can be hands free if you get a hands free nursing bra. Plus I always was sitting while pumping and could easily prop my pump inside my regular bra so I could read a magazine. I never anticipate pumping while doing anything active so I don't see that hands free feature being anything too special. Overall I love my Lansinoh and I think its a great pump for the money, also Ameda Purely Yours makes the exact same pump with interchangeable parts.
Ameda is essentially the same pump as Lansinoh, which I have the double electric of from when I had DD1. I think the pump works really well, it has a closed system (so milk cannot get into tubing) and was recommended by the lactation consultant that taught my breastfeeding class.
