I got the confirmation from the hospital the other day that we are set to be induced early Tuesday morning (Aug 23rd). I am so excited to finally meet our baby girl but getting very nervous about the whole process of delivery & everything that comes after. I'm trying to get all of the last minute things done this weekend before my in-laws come in from out of town. I guess if there is anyone out there that would be willing to answer any of my ?'s I would really appreciate it
TIA
1. We were told to be @ the hospital @ 12:15 am on the23rd. Everyone (friends who have had children) have told me to make sure to eat something before going in, however this is not a normal eating time for me & I don't want to eat too much if I do eat something. Any suggestions of things to eat or should I eat before I go?
2. How did you sterilize pacifiers for the 1st time? I have dishwasher baskets to use with the bottles but I was not sure if I should use them or boil water on the stove.
3. I have tried so hard to make sure that we have everything that we need for the baby & I think we have everything. But I was wondering if there were any little things that you don't think of before hand that you saw came in handy once home with the baby...either for baby or mom.
4. Anyone out there that has been induced before have any suggestions or advice of what to expect? I know that pit is suppose to make things more intense. I know that I will probably be getting an epi eventually however I want to try to go as far as I can & make progress before getting it.
Re: I'm going to be a Mommy in 3 days! I have some ?'s
1. Your friends are telling you this because most hospitals still have the very outdated policy of not allowing eating during labor and labor can be a long process. I'd ask your doctor about possibly eating during labor, when you are actually hungry, rather than trying to scarf some food when you may or may not be hungry. Gorging at a weird time just might make you sick. Then, I'd pack some food to take along and eat whenever you normally do. Take things that are easy to digest, like you might eat if you weren't feeling too good - non-acidic fruit, granola bars, crackers, chicken noodle soup, maybe some yogurt.
2. Pacifiers will have instructions with them on how to sterilize, but really all you need to do is boil on the stove.
3. Everyone is different. We were glad to have velcro swaddles, pacifiers and a moby wrap for baby (as well as diapers). For me, lots of nipple cream, nursing pads, comfie clothes, tucks, always infinity pads
4. Never been induced, so I'm no help

1. PLEASE ask your doc about this and do not listen to others. I was told not to eat past midnight. I see you are going in at that time but I went in at 7 am, they said not to eat in the slight chance I would need to be put under for emergency c section. So ask doc.
2. I agree boiling is just fine. After that, soapy hot water will do.
3. I brought my own swaddle recievers. The ones at the hospital smell funny and are all stiff. I will bring my own pads this time as I like them to stick and they give you these ones with nylon wings and they ride up your butt!
4. I was induced. I can't say it was fun at all, but I was just saying in another post that it kind of depends on how dialated you are when you go in. I was at 1, so it took a long time. My neighbor had her baby in June, she was about 9 days overdue. They gave her pit and she delivered within 5 hours, and only pushed twice or something like that. I did good on pit for 8 hours or so and then really started to feel them. My total time was around 18 hours from start to finish with petocin. Started it at 10 am, got epi at 1 am next day, had baby at 5:19.
I'll be going in Monday night to start my induction. I was told to eat a light meal before heading to the hospital. I have GD, so I was told I wouldn't feel good if I didn't eat a little something.
You won't want to get too hungry, so maybe have a snack or light meal before you head to the hospital. Would be good to ask your doctor or nurse about it though just to make sure.
Good luck with your induction! We will both be having our babies on Tuesday!
