Weaning off of sound machine???

DH thinks we need to start weaning DD from using her sound machine. Seriously? If your LO uses one are you going to stop using it soon? I don't think it's neccesary, if ever if that's what's going to make her a good sleeper. Thoughts?

Re: Weaning off of sound machine???

  • My first daughter is ging to be 4 in November and she still sleeps with her rainforest sounds.  She loves them.  I see no reason to stop it.  There are plenty of adults who sleep with noise.
  • If it works, why mess with it?

ITA - we sleep with a fan (for the breeze and the white noise) 365, and Stephanie's got her own white noise sound machine.  Don't plan on changing anything any time soon.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it  Big Smile

  • DH wanted to do this too, but we're going to keep it for now.  We live in an old house with creaky wood floors and sometimes she wakes up when we come up the stairs to bed, even with the noise machine.

We sleep with a fan - noise helps us sleep, so I figure it helps her too.

  • Same here. I'm picking my battles and this isn't one of them. :)) LO will use it as long as she likes..

THIS! We switch between a fan and air purifier for white noise in our room. LO has a white noise machine they use in shrinks offices.

She once took a nap without the white noise machine *gasp* (the baby sitter forgot to put it on).

  • No way. It makes sense to break habits of rocking or feeding to sleep since those can become a PITA, but the sound machine requires no effort on my part so I'll keep it as long as necessary.

  • We turn on a cool mist humidifier every night in DD's room and I see no problem with it.

  • I'm 33 and like to sleep with a fan or a sound machine on. my 3.5 year old uses one, too. They're great for covering up noises while babies/kids nap.

  • Ain't no way we're getting rid of that thing. I have a Basset that is part bulldozer and tears through my house like her ass is on fire, then a cat that tears around behind her, a husband who doesn't know how to tread lightly and a 9.5 y/o boy who doesn't know how to talk softly. Nope. Not going to happen. Hell, I still sleep with white noise, 2 fans going, and I wouldn't be able to sleep if it was dead quiet.
