Positive Fetal Fibronectin / Cramping / Bedrest

I am 31 wks having back pain and cramping for the past 3 days, after mentioning this at a routine appointment today I had the Fetal Fibronectin come back positive and was put on bed rest even though my cervix it completly closed. Anyone else experience this?

I could be totally wrong but I didn't think the positive result really meant anything....

Im nervous because 31wks is too early and also really bummed because my husband and I were supposed to leave for a week vacation at the beach tomorrow and that obviously is not happening.

i had 2 positive FFN tests at 32 and 34 weeks and kept my son in until 37. but i was in PTL and was dilated to 3cm. 

i know its hard not to, but try not to worry. i think they are wrong more than they are right.

At 31 weeks, I had menstrual like cramping so was sent to L&D.  I also tested positive on the Ffn.  My cervix was closed but short, so I was put on modified bedrest.  I have continued to have the cramping, but I'm 35w1d and still pregnant!  They did give me the lung shots as a precaution at 31w and also gave me terbutaline at 32w to try to calm my uterus.  It is scary, but lots of people test positive and go on to full term.

They gave me round 1 of steriods today (round 2 tomorrow) so that is some comfort to know things are in place to help the baby if the worst happens. I was just blindsided with this today was totally expecting MD to tell me it was completly normal and send me on my way. Just another example of how are parents so many things are out of our control.

The way my MFM explained it to me, a negative test carries a 99% accuracy rate. However, a positive result is only 40% accurate. So, there is a 60% chance you won't go into labor in the next two weeks. Stinks that you will be missing out on vacation, but hopefully all the precautions will equal a full term and healthy baby. PLEASE do not worry about a positive FfN test.  I had a negative at 25 weeks, positive at 27, negative at 29, positive at 31.  And I'm still pregnant at 37.5 weeks.  Every professional I've talked to (my doctor and nurses at the hospital) say that it's dead on when it's negative, but when it's positive, it's almost always wrong.
