Sorry, this is like my 3rd post today. I think possibly my water might be breaking, but I'm not sure. This morning I had a little trickle/gush of clear fluid, enough to wet my underwear (sorry TMI). It was watery and not urine or discharge. I figured I would wait and wear a pad and see if anything more came out. Nothing did for a few hours. In the past hour, I have felt increasing moisture down there, and more on my underwear, but not a "gush" of fluid at all. It's not the consistency of discharge, it's very watery. Also, no contractions, although I feel baby moving lots. When I got up this morning, baby also felt much lower in my abdomen.
My midwives practice said to call if my water breaks or if I am having contractions 5 minutes apart. They also said I could stay at home for 24 hours if my water breaks and wait for contractions.
I don't know whether or not it has broken...I happen to have a routine appt. tomorrow morning at 8:30, which would be before the 24 hours. Can I wait and just ask about it then if nothing else happens?
This sounds stupid, but I think they will tell me to go to the hospital to get the fluid tested now if I'm not sure, and I don't want to hang out there for no reason if it's not time. Also, my 90 year old grandfather was just readmitted to the hospital today (a different one than I'm delivering at) and he's not doing very well. We don't know how things are going to go with him. DH and I are going to go up and visit early this evening, and I don't want to miss out on that if possible-he has deteriorated a lot in the past week, and things may not go well.
So is it safe to wait to call/ ask at my appointment if nothing else really obvious happens?
I'm just past 38 weeks, btw.
Re: Sorry to be a PW today....but, I think my water is breaking? Maybe?
Honestly, I would go in. This EXACT thing happened to me with my DD#2. It was very random "little gushes" all day long. No pain, nothing. I went in to get checked and they tested me. Negative for AF. I get home and 1/2 hour later...GUSH! I knew for sure then. It doesn't hurt to get tested.
Good Luck and keep us updated!
Were you tested for Strep B? I ask because once your water breaks your baby is suseptible for infections and if you tested positive for Strep B, you need to get there ASAP after water breaks. I tested positive so my Dr. told me- If your water breaks, don't mess around, go to the hospital.
Best of Luck!
I was tested, and I am negative, so that's good. With my practice, they said to call if my water breaks (assuming I know for sure), but then unless the contractions are 5 minutes apart, I can stay home and wait for 18-24 hours to go into labor on my own. Right now- no contractions (not even Braxton Hicks).
I just don't know how I will know if it's just a little trickle here and there...and with my Grandpa in the hospital, I don't want to waste time going to get tested and then sent home.
I'd go in to be on the safe side. It does sound like your water broke to me, only because that's exactly how mine was. Everyone's different but you can't be too careful at this point.
Hmm, I think you have me convinced. This is my gut feeling. I want to be a bit more convinced before going in or calling. I think I'll wait it out this evening and ask about it in the morning at my appointment. That way I'm still within the "window".
I would definitely call your OB. The same thing happened to me, I was having leaking going on all day Saturday and decided to wait and see what would happen. I called my OB on Sunday andhe told me t go right into thehospital. I was checked for A andit came back negative, s ew hours later I washavng ery intense contations.
I went back to the ospital that night and was i ful blown abor, 10 hours later my OB went to break my water and there wasn't any AF, I indeed was correct and Iwas laking AF. This required me to have another IV with antibiotics. DD and I both ended up with high fevers because of the hospitals mistake.
You are better safe than sorry! Good luck!
I think you're safe to wait until tomorrow morning. My friend's water broke in the afternoon (definite break) and she waited at home until the next morning when contractions kicked in. She didn't want to have to go spend the night in the hospital if she didn't have to. The doctor and nurses were surprised, but the baby was fine and so was she. You might as well be comfortable
The 24 hour clock starts because infections in hospital environments present about that time. At home births, you have 36-48 hours before you have to start worrying about infection. So your LO is actually safer at home for the time being...statistically.
FYI in the beginning of labor with DD I felt no contractions but when they hooked me up to the monitor I was contracting regularly. When my water broke I felt the need to go to the bathroom and it was a heavy stream. I would have thought nothing of it but DD has passed meconium so when I wiped it had like a greenish tinge to it.
Being as you have an appt in the am, negative to strep b it is up to you. If you are comfortable I would call the oncall nurse and ask their opinion but may opt to stay home until either you go to appt in the am or begin contracting that you can feel/count.
