s/o kids party- would you do this?

I would never not celebrate Lorenzo's birthday but I have thought about having his party at his half birthday date ( in July) since we could do it outside...thoughts?

Is it weird to have the party 6 months after the bday?

Re: s/o kids party- would you do this?

  • Ive thought about doing this too. Evan and Leah have a month and a half between their birthdays....AND thanksgiving Christmas and new years. Sucks for everyone!!!
  • No, I wouldn't. My bday is in February... and yes, sometimes it sucked to have a winter birthday party (especially since my brother has a Labor Day birthday... so he always had a long weekend and beautiful weather to celebrate!) But, I would have never wanted to wait 6 months for my party... it doesn't really make much sense to me. A party is just a party.... the real celebration is that it's the day they were born and turning a year older... not 6 months older on a different day just because it's nice out.

  • Hmm not a fan. Maybe you could find a place with an indoor pool that you could have the party at?

Or Reeeeally one up those moms on TLC and fly everyone somewhere tropical for the party. Oh and if you're going to do that you should totally invite all of us from the board ;)

  • Maybe both?  Nothing fancy for the 1/2 birthday... but it would be a great excuse for a cookout or something.   (I'm always looking for an excuse to throw a party... and a 1/2 birthday sounds like a good one to me!).

I know a few people who do silly stuff for their 1/2 birthday every year.  My cousin and I were acually born exactly 6 months apart... so his 1/2 birthday falls on my birthday and vice versa.  We send each other a 1/2 birthday card every year.  Maybe it could start a fun new tradition for you.

  • No.  I could see a couple weeks to maybe even a month if that meant good weather (like a May bday for an April kid) but not a half bday.  And when the kid gets older that absolutely would not work, they are literally counting the days to their bday.. good luck telling them they have to wait 6 more months for the big party..
  • On one hand, I couldn't see putting off a birthday celebration for a kid, but on the other hand, a spring/summer party would be a fun thing for kids, rather than having them all stuck in the house. Of course, Charlotte is October so her half is April and neither of those months are guaranteed good weather haha. The only nice thing about maybe doing a "1/2 birthday gift" for Charlotte maybe would be that it would be more season appropriate for outdoor toys. I know we will definitely be needing some outdoor things for next year but people are thinking about what she could use right around her birthday and Christmas. I was actually thinking I might get her one of those Little Tykes sets because we have the room to put it up in our computer room and then in the winter she would be able to have it and we could just move it outside when the time comes, I guess.

  • I wouldn't do it but Dylan's b-day is December 20th so I totally get why you'd want to!!!

  • I wouldn't do it either, but like others have said I could see why you would want to.  We have been lucky with Zoey's parties since she was born in July.  So we always just have a BBQ.  I am already wondering what we should do for Liana.  January  - yuck!  Maybe chili, or pulled pork or something else that can be done in the crock pot?

well obvs this would not work when he's older unless he wants to go great escape or some kind of outdoor water place...

but actually my cousin- her son is a May Bday and his big party is labor day weekend- she caters and her big season is the summer and this year- time just got away from them- and he's 11...I think its all in how its presented...it stinks to wait but I dont think all kids would have a meltdown...

  • My bday is in Dec and my sister's is in Aug.  She always did a pool party at our house, which is great if the weather cooperates.  Otherwise, it is just playing indoors which is fun too, but not exciting.  I think 1 yr she got mini-golf.  Mine (until I was old enough to just turn it in to sleepovers) was always at places like USA Skates or Laser Tag or other fun places.  Summer outdoor bdays are great, unless it down pours, so you always need a back up.  Whereas winter bdays you just plan something fun from the beginning.

My sister actually did celebrate her half bday, not a party or anything.  But it was like her special day and we went out to dinner and my mom usually indulged her every Feb 1st.  I didn't care a single bit about my half bday.
