I have tons of weddings and a BYOB dinner coming up and the "I'm driving" or "I don't feel well" excuse just doesn't cut it for not drinking....what do you do to "hide" that you're not drinking while TTC or in early pregnancy!?
Be the DD, tell people you are trying to lose weight, or get a watered down cranberry juice with a stirrer and tell people you are drinking a cranberry & vodka.
I always order a cranberry juice with a lime to look like a cape cod or even a virgin bloody mary. To be honest though I usually tell them I'm not drinking because i prefer not to and usually they don't give me the 3rd degree.
I've never had a problem with people asking why I'm not drinking... but if it is brought up I would just say I didn't feel like it. Usually nothing else is said after that. If you don't stress about it and make a big deal about it when you are asked, then they usually forget they asked you in like, 5 seconds. Especially if THEY are drinking, haha.

I have a fun one, which may or may not apply to a smaller gathering, but when I first found out I was pg before my m/c my DH and I went away for the weekend and I "challenged" the bartender to make a virgin cosmo for a "pregnant woman" (which I was so excited to call myself as much as I could!).... and you know what? it was GREAT! It looked EXACTLY like a cosmo and he even put it in a martini glass.
Something more for a gathering: look into Crystal Light...they now have "mocktail" flavors such as margaritas! I was planning on using this one as long as I could

Same here. I rarely have a problem as long as I don't make a big deal about it.
I usually get a coke and add a slice of lime in a glass. any beverage with some sort of garnish and people will assume its alcohol. 99% of the time no one asks what it is.
I just get virgin drinks. But for my birthday I fell off the wagon and did drink. I didnt drink too much and everyone was too drunk to notice. Hopefully people will be to preoccupied to notice youre not drink.

Wow, not my friends. Maybe it's because I always have at least 1 drink if I'm in that type of setting, but when I was PG the two times I went out to a bar and had Sprite I was immediately asked by my girlfriends if I was PG. The first time I was so unprepared for the question that I said yes, I just couldn't pull off lying. So I totally understand the need to have a cover.
Exactly what you said Mrs. Erin.....I'm not a HUGE drinker, but def have been known to throw a couple back...and def not one to pass up wine esp at a bf's wedding....My besties are so onto me (guess we're also at that age...married, then comes kids) and I couldn't pull the wool over their eyes (is that the saying, ha)!!!! I was at a wedding and played off the capt/gingerale/lime thing pretty well (but they put non-alcohol drinks in a different glass...so I had to sneakily tell the bartender to put it in a regular drinking glass). Then, my old roomie from yearsssss ago was the one that asked, "Are you pg?" Or another friend says, "You know you're not very fun, you're not drinking!" Never fails!
I typically don't hide it but I like the idea of getting a watered down cranberry or get soda water and lime and it looks like vodka tonic.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
I have a no-fail excuse. I say that I'm having "intestinal problems" which everyone assumes means diarrhea (which is what I intend for them to assume) and they drop it at that, because no one wants to talk about my bowel movements. As long as the same people aren't at the events, you can use this one more than once. GL!

I live in the South, and when I was pg, I got called out by a co-worker at a lunch function for not drinking sweet tea (b/c I am a sweet tea addict.) I was totally taken back and came up with the lamest "need hydration" excuse. It feels like we're caught no matter what we're drinking! ;P

I never understand this question or why people have to Hide that they don't want to drink. If I don't feel like drinking I just say, I don't feel like it, if I am the DD I say I am the DD. I have never had a friend get all up in arms if I am not drinking or assume I am pregnant. When I was younger & in my 20's people would ask why... but that's it. They were just curious as to why I didn't want one that day. If I said I was driving or didn't feel like they dropped it. I have never been one to ask someone why they aren't drinking or doing what every one else is.
ETA: this came off as kind of snarky & that was not intentional. My apologies!
