Is your front door painted a "color?"

We live in a neighborhood where there are literally dozens of other houses like ours.  We've done landscaping and such to make ours "our own" but I've been dying to paint our front door to set it apart even more (the builder matches the front door to the shutters).

I had been thinking cranberry, but I'm kind-of over that and another house near us has the same color scheme with a red front door.

Our house is grey with white trim and black shutters.  I'm thinking yellow

or maybe a blue/teal, but I don't know how good that would look against the grey.

Is yours painted a color other than a neutral?  If so, what color?

Re: Is your front door painted a "color?"

  • Please just be careful of the yellow you choose! My IL's neighbor ended up with a bright yellow door on accident.

Ours is neutral and I don't like it.

  • Our door is a muted greyish green.  I don't like it.  I found a muted red that I like a lot better.  It will be painted soon!

  • Ours is just white with a lot of windows.  Yuck.

I really like both of your options and when done right, I love the look of a "different" colored front door.

  • Ours is a Burgundy color...I like the yellow
  • Ours is like a beige or sandalwood color.
  • I'm stumped on this as well. Our house is a dark brick red front, light gray siding (sides and rear), with black shutters and door.

I'd love to do a color, I just have no idea what to do - and I've been thinking about it for nearly 3 years.

I LOVE the light yellow with gray.

  • Yes, ours is a burgundy red.  I like it a lot.

Our neighbors have all different colors.  I strongly dislike black and green is terrible, but the rest are all good.  Wood doors are nice too, but the upkeep would be beyond me.

ETA: I think yellow would be nice if you are very careful of the shade you choose.

  • Ours is navy and I don't like it. I saw somewhere on pinterest that someone had a hot pink door and I want it. Don't think the hubby would go for it though.

  • Ours is a dark walnut stain.  It is a fiberglass door though with the gel stain, so it looks like a rich wood without all of the maintenance of actual wood.

I like the yellow door with the gray and white color combination.  I agree about choosing the correct yellow - it could be tricky.

  • Our's had a magenta/pink door when we moved in, and I love it. DH, not so much, but he hasn't tried to change it yet.

  • And here is a yellow that I think is pretty.  Not too muted but not too bright.

  • Ours is cranberry and I'm over it.  (Our shutters are too though so I can't just paint it another color).  I like the idea of yellow, red (like true red), green (maybe a mossy color), turquoise or maybe even lavender because it always looks so pretty with gray.

  • I like your idea of a tealish color. I think something with more green in it than the blue door you posted. Like this:

I may be way off here, but what about orange? I think grey and orange look awesome together. And an orange front door might be kinda modern and fun? A fiery color like red, but a more modern edge?! :)

Love the teal and LOVE the orange, but my H already nearly shat his pants over yellow, so I guarantee he'd freak about orange.

My mother has a friend whose house is gray stone, she had an orchid door for a time. I loved it. She had it plum before and teal before that.

You know, I really hadn't noticed until now that you, auntie, do seem to answer questions with NO personal information, other than the bits and pieces about aspergers and boy scouts.  Weird.

I like the yellow.  I always wanted a redish door- it has many symbolisms.

Here an article on the symbolism of front doors, kinda neat

  • Ours is a minty green.  I love it and people find the house easily when I tell them to look for the green door.

    .
  • The good news is that paint is cheap and a front door doesn't need much.

Ours is neutral, but it is a french door with mostly glass panes.  Maybe I should go to the paint store this weekend.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I love the yellow. Here is another picture to sell you on it:

I have this pinned with "This shall soon be mine" as the comment.  :)

My front room is black/white/grey/mustard, so a yellow door totally makes sense.  (at least that's how I'm selling it to H).

  • Our house is the same grey/white combo as your first picture and our front door is cranberry.  I'd like a brighter red some day.
