Foods you are not giving

My first two kids had major diaper issues with sweet potatoes - it was bad.  So I'm hesitant to even try them with Isaac.  My other two kids had issues with cinnamon.  Are there any foods your babies have had issues with?  Any foods you are not giving until they are older?

  • pedi only said to stay away from honey.  im also not giving griff egg whites either.  i read on another board to not give fresh blueberries?

all the foods ive given to griff so far have sat well with him.  he looooves sweet potatoes.

  • Knock on wood, we haven't had issues yet.  As per the pedi, we're going to hold off on honey, shellfish, strawberries, milk, and eggs for a while.

  • So far, so good. I've pretty much adhered to the guidelines as to what foods to give when, with two exceptions: strawberries & eggs.

DS likes strawberries & hasn't had any reactions. I gave him a tiny piece of scrambled egg on two occasions & he was fine. There was also 1 egg mixed in the turkey meatloaf he had, but I am not going to go giving him eggs everyday.

The ped gave the ok at his 8 month appt. to give him cheese, but we haven't tried it yet.

  • I haven't given LO prunes.  I think they look disgusting Tongue Tied  He had been ok with pretty much everything.  My Mom actually put honey on his paci during his first few weeks.  oops.  Guess he isn't allergic!?!?!?

  • We are steering clear of honey, shellfish because I am allergic, eggs because I am terrified he will have a bad reaction like anaphylactic shock and peanut butter.

Aside from that I am pretty okay with stuff. We did tread lightly with avocado, banana and kiwi because DH has a latex allergy and I wanted to make sure to be very slow about giving those to LO just in case.

  • He hasn't had any reactions to anything so far. We're avoiding the usual - honey, peanut butter, shellfish, etc, until later on but that's about it.

  • The honey is not an allergy danger - it's due to botulinum . https://www.babycenter.com/408_when-can-my-baby-eat-honey_1368490.bc

    Yikes!

At our 6 month appointment, our pedi said the only things we couldn't give were cows milk and honey until one year - so we've done scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. I haven't done strawberries or peanut butter yet, but he said they were fine. I didn't know anything about blueberries - DS just had some in his mesh feeder.

Did they say why? We've given Charlie tons of blueberries and all it did was make his poop blue. Bright blue. Tongue Tied

  • We are going to hold out on nuts, shellfish, egg whites, milk, and honey, but we've given him almost all the berries, grains, meats, fruits, and veggies otherwise.

  • The only foods we are holding off on are dairy products, honey, tree nuts, and shellfish until later. Everything else we give him. He only dislikes bitter foods, like unripe strawberries or most green leafys by themselves. He also dislikes malt-o-meal unless some fruit puree is mixed in with it.

Holy crap really?  Blueberries?  LO loves them!!  I'd better get to googling!

  • I think blueberries are only problematic as a choking hazard. If you mash them or put them in a mesh feeder it shouldn't be a problem. I could be wrong but that's all I've heard.
