3rd Trimester

r/p: Lucy has been given an eviction notice!

Had my 39 week appointment today... I am still between fingertip and 1 and high (have been the same for 3 1/2 weeks).  I asked my OB if she does membrane stripping and she said she would have been doing it for the past couple of weeks if she could easily reach my cervix... so that option is out.

With my due date coming up on Saturday and no progress made, my OB has scheduled our induction process.  If Lucy hasn't graced us with her presence by Sunday I will have a NST to make sure everything is OK... If things haven't then progressed by Wednesday I will have another NST and OB appt... if things still haven't progressed by Thursday I will be going in Thursday night to start Cervidil.

Strange enough I feel a lot more relaxed knowing that there is a plan in place as this is the first appointment that my doctor has talked to me about induction other than saying she is comfortable with me going as far as 41 weeks.

Now just to finish the rest of my "to-do-before-baby" list! Oh... and wish me luck with my job interview tonight!!!

  • Maybe she is just waiting to arrive on her due date :) Even if you go past, it sounds like you are in good hands and they are keeping an eye on her. Hooray for having a baby in just a little over a week! And good luck with your job interview!

  • Okay, this may sound judgmental and I don't mean it to, plus I'm at FTM who hasn't been 39 weeks pregnant before, but...it seems like so many women on this board are rather eager to deliver early or ON their due dates.  Why the rush?  Isn?t 41 weeks just as healthy and just as likely (and for FTMs, more likely) as 39 or 40?  I?m curious, why would you rather be induced than wait for labor to begin spontaneously?  Maybe there are reasons to induce at 40 weeks that I?m not aware of?

ETA: Reading your post again, I see now that the induction would start the next Thursday, not the day after your due date.  I guess my question is, why does your OB want to induce at 41 rather than 42 weeks?

  • I've read a lot and listened to a lot or different opinions and it seems that if your body is ready (your cervix is soft and "ripe") and your Dr. feels you're ready, it can be healthier at 39 or 40 weeks than waiting until later.  Of course, the argument comes into play that your due date could be off, which is totally valid.  When your fluids levels are optimum and your placenta is happy and fluffy (my Dr's word, not mine lol), it makes for a great delivery.  So, waiting until 42 weeks can actually mean less healthy circumstances (a less plentiful placenta for example) for the baby.

Obviously I'm not saying it's BETTER to have the baby at 39 weeks, but I am saying (for those whose body's are ready, per the Dr.) it can be a healthy choice.
