3rd Trimester

gestational diabetes

I will be 33 weeks this Saturday, I'm so excited! I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which is no fun at all. Today I had an ultrasound with my high risk doctor and found out the baby weighs 5lbs 8oz. He is a little bigger than average. I know for sure I won't be going past 39-40 weeks, but now it may be close to 37 weeks. Has anyone else dealt with GDM? I'm working very hard to control my sugar. I don't want to baby to be too early, but I am excited to meet him!

Re: gestational diabetes

  • Yes, with both pregnancies. I am now on insulin with this one, I made it a lot longer without it though. Last time I was induced at 38 weeks because I developed pre-e too. I would hope they wouldn't induce you at 37 without a better reason than GD and they should check for lung maturity first unless it is an emergency.

  • The dr has scheduled me for another ultrasound at 37 weeks, I just wonder how big they will let him be until he becomes too big. I know it may make for a more painful labor, but I don't want a c section!!!
  • Check out the High Risk Board, plenty of us GD mama's-to-be are in there. :)

    Baby #3- ????? (ttc soon)

  • Yes I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago.  I am 32 weeks now.  I am on the glyburide pills.  They will induce me at 38 weeks.  My son was born last October 2nd.  So (trying to find the positives) she won't be born on his birthday.  AND I didn't gain any weight this week.

It's frustrating to have something like that and having to worry about how the rest of the pregnancy will go and how the baby is.  Hang in there.  The high risk board has a lot of women with GD on it.
