a little anemic

I found out today Im measureing 35wks, I passed my GD test and I'm a little anemic! My OB gave me a list of some foods to be sure to eat but Im curious if any one has any suggestions out there for keeping the iron level up while being a vegetarian? Any favorite foods that are high in iron that you like? TIA

  • I'm just about borderline too and am taking SlowFE, a supplement. However, I've read that having some vitamin c (oj) with your iron rich food and NOT dairy products will increase absorption.

  • Iron fortified breakfast cereals are my best friend right now. Kellogs All Bran has a lot of iron.

Also, some berries - I think blueberries? Dried fruit, soybeans, chickpeas, lentils...

I agree with PP - eat iron rich foods or take supplement with vitamin C to aid absorption.

  • I'm a little anemic as well. My OB told me it is very common in pregnant women. Raisins, dark leafy greens like spinach, beans, artichokes, lentils, & chick peas are all high in iron.

  • I am in the boat as you, I was 1pt under what my iron level is supposed to be.

I am  taking SLow Fe iron pills everyother day...watch that you dont get constipated..eat a high fiber diet along with them if you decide to take also vit C.

If not eat alot of spinach...good luck
