What diaper bag are you getting?

Im so clueless with the diaper bag choices...I also think they are severely overpriced. Do you mind telling me what you are getting/registered for and how much it costs and why you picked that one? Functionality? looks? thanks!

Re: What diaper bag are you getting?

  • I got the JJ Cole 180 bag in Blue Vine.  It's a messenger style bag. I love it cause it has compartments in the front for your personal stuff.  I can't wait to use it!

  • I am with you on the overpriced bags. I found a messenger bag at Ross and went with that. I usually hate diaper bags and buy bags that I like from the book bag area. You can buy the separate changing pad and wipe holder.

  • I have been through a few diaper bags and I recommend getting a heavy duty one. That's not to say you have to spend $200 but I think in the $50-$100 range you can get something durable and cute. I have a few $30ish ones that just fell apart and would not last through two kids.

Both DH and I really liked this one (we had it in the army green color), but it got ruined by a leaky bottle and we couldn't get the smell out: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3161946&CAWELAID=307739975

Now that I will have two I am getting either a skip hop dash or the JJ Cole Blue Vine Mode Bag because they are bigger.

Things I would look for in an ideal diaper bag: Durable material with very durable zippers, waterproof material that washes well, lots of compartments and expands open so you aren't digging, thick single strap that is adjustable so you can hang it from the stroller handle (this is key IMO), somewhat unisex so it can be easily transfered between me and DH

  • Last time we had a Skip Hop Duo that I bought used off of a friend.  It worked well for us.  This time, we got the Skip Hop Via Backpack.  DH and I both liked the looks of it and it's not so large as to be overwhelming, but we can still get all of our infant stuff as well as a few things for DD#1 in it.  It retails for $70 but I was able to get it for $35 off of Gilt.

  •  https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Fastfinder-Deluxe-Everyday-Organizer/dp/B004CKL1SO because of good reviews on other sites, tons of pockets inside and out, not girly/DH will carry it, and price (I only paid $25 or so, I guess it was on sale).  I don't think it will last forever, but the quality is fine for the price.

I have my eye on some nicer ones, but I'm a FTM and don't want to spend much until I have a better idea what I'll need.

  • This is the bag I got:

I'd have to double check, but I think it was a little under $200.  I got it because:

    * I love Kate Spade's Stevie bags.  They're incredibly comfortable and roomy.  I have another I use as a carry on for flights and I can actually fit an entire weekend trip in it.

    * Side pockets are great for easy access to phone/camera/etc.

    * Zippered top so I don't have to worry about things falling out.

    * nylon lined for easy cleaning

    * comes with changing pad and stroller strap

    * And most importantly, cute enough that I can use after the baby no longer needs a diaper bag.

  • I had a bag custom made for me on Etsy with the features and fabric that I was looking for. I paid about $100. It is still in great shape because I can machine wash it when it gets dirty and it looks new again. I love it because it isn't a "baby bag" it is stylish and cute and I know that I'll continue to use it for trips or going to the gym when the kids are out of diapers. I would agree with a previous poster that a single adjustable strap so that it can be hung over stroller handles is a must have.

That being said, my dream bag is a Ju Ju Be "Be Prepared" but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of cash on a bag. If I found one used somewhere for a good price I'd pounce on it.

  • I got this bag https://www.amazon.com/Swag-Diaper-Bag-Silver-Drops/dp/B0039QFZ52/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1313543304&sr=8-2 a little more than I wanted to pay and a little small, but a bag that's for me and DS (not just DS).  I got this one with a coupon for under $80. This was mostly for style.

I had this one with DS 1.  It was roomy, unisex (so DH could use) but too bulky to move around with.   I got this as a gift at my shower, I think it was under $40. This was mostly functionality but wasn't great function wise.

  • I bought a Vera Bradley baby bag - on sale for $52 (I think they are normally $90+ ... I would never spend that much).
  • I have a large Ed Hardy patten leather tote that serves as my diaper bag. It only has one compartment but its so big and can hold so much. Its also more my style/personality than a traditional diaper bag.

  • I bought this:

This is the JuJuBe BFF. I was lucky to find this used on a Cloth Diaper FB page because this is exactly the one I wanted. It's big enough to hold everything I need since cloth diapers are a bit bulkier then disposables.

It usually goes for $150-200 depending on where you buy it, but I got it for about $50 less and she included two extra's (pacifier holder and another little baggie that matches).

  • I bought a vera bradley diaper bag. It was a bit much at $100 but I figure with twins I'll be using it for a long time and its pretty enough to use on a regular basis once I no longer need a diaper bag. It has pleny of compartments and a changing pad. I'm just hoping its enough room for cloth diapered twins! lol we shall see!!

I believe we paid $150 regular price is $400. Got the deal at a coach outlet and they gave me a coupon on top of the outlet price.

Got DH a iaper dude bag which he loves all the compartments he has and especially the dont forget list what t pack on the flap of the diaper bag. I got it at buybuy baby.

  • I got this one from Walmart...super affordable, and you also get a smaller diaper bag for quick outings. I do not see a need for a really pricey diaper bag, i just need something to fit all the stuff i need for LO, DSs toys/snacks, and my wallet/personal items

  • I got the Vera Bradley Baby Bag. I believe it was on sale for $65. I think they usually cost $99, but they usually have a few patterns on sale. I wanted this one because I generally like Vera Bradley products and I love that the bag can be machine washed. Also, I liked that it was very roomy but not enormous.

  • I got the Ju Ju Be "Be Prepared" bag. It was more than I was prepared to initially spend, but it was the only bag that I kept going back to again and again. It's washable, attractive, doesn't scream "diaper bag" and has a lot of compartments.

I ordered the Skip Hop Studio diaper tote when it was on www.gilt.com for about $50. :)

  • I too got the Ju Ju Be BFF bag in Shadow Waltz design (https://www.shopjujube.com/Product.aspx?l=00070000000000000000&p=JJB01327)  I loved this bag when I saw it but refused to pay $150 for it.  BUT, when Hubby and I were on our "Babymoon Cruise" in April, I won $300 at the casino and decided to buy it with my winnings, otherwise I would have never spent the money on it.  I LOVE it because you can put it over your shoulder, pick it up like a laptop bag with the small strap at top or wear it as a backpack.  We have already started to fill it for the hospital and have 12 diapers, a HUGE thing of wipes, a blanket 3 onsies, 1 sleeper and 2 outfits, pacifiers, hat and socks and a few of my things in it and there's still room!  I LOVE this bag!

  • I hated most of the diaper bags I saw that were affordable, and the ones I loved were not in my price range. I ended up getting a couple of messenger bags that I liked that were in my price range. You don't need a "diaper bag", you just need a big tote with lots of nifty pockets. I got mine from from DSW and they are adorable. The only actual "diaper bag" I got was one from ShoeDazzle on one of their Dazzle Deals and it is really my favorite.

  • I got the Graco Pippin bag as a gift. It matches my stroller and does everything I need it to. It's fairly reasonably priced as well.

I probably would've gone for something a little simpler if I were buying for myself, but I like this just fine.
