Measuring 6w4d and didn't see a heartbeat...??? Trying not to worry

Anyone else not see a heartbeat at 6 weeks?  The tech said it was probably just too early and the Dr. would most likely have me come back for another one.  I thought I was about a week more along but it is possible that I ovulated later which was the case with 2 of my kids.

I have not yet had an u/s so I cant answer from personal experience but from everything I have read/heard it might just be too early. Was it an abdominal u/s? I think it is harder to see on those?

Either way if your OB is not worried, you should *try* (i know WAY easier said than done) not to worry also!! T&P to you!!

It's quite possible that you're not as far along as you thought you were and that's why they couldn't locate the heart beat.

It was a t/v ultrasound. My OB office is in another city so I only seen a tech at our local clinic.  She said all scans are sent to another state to be read and my Dr. will get a report this week. Her dates are probably right since I think I ovulated late.  She said she seen the yolk sac and a fetal pole but no flutter.

Usually on the ultrasound you won't see a heartbeat until week 7 so if you're measuring 6w4d's then that's what you should see.

At 8 weeks is when you can hear the baby's heartbeat

I wouldn't worry. The doctor had me in last week (waaaayyy early). He said we'd see the sac and saw nothing. First thing he said was "Nurse, are we sure she's pregnant?"... I was very upset until I got my bloodwork results back. He said I might have O'd later than typical and so I wasn't as far along as expected (in the timeline of what they should be seeing). You should be able to see something soon try not to worry! You probably O'd later than the doctor/you think--which is similar in my case

When I went for my first U/S I was 6w4d as well and we did see it but we heard it. I wouldnt worry, its prob just too early. I was lucky to hear it though...it sounds amazing! 

Can't wait for my next one (next week) I'll get to see my lil lime!

When I called to set up my first appt, they scheduled to see me when I was 7 weeks and 2 days.  They did a vaginal ultrasound because the baby was very small, about the size of a pinky nail, and was hard to see, but we could see the heart beating.  Which would make me think that it was a little too early.  You'd probably be able to see your baby's heartbeat within the next few days.

Something similar happened to me last week. I went in for my first U/S last Wed, thinking that I was 9 weeks. (My last period was 6/8) When my OB took a look she said that it looked like only 5 weeks instead. She said that it was either one of two scenerios: 1. I was really only 5 weeks or 2. The baby stopped growing at 5 weeks. I was just as worried to get my results, too. It turns out that I ovulated later than they thought and I really was 5 weeks along since my HCG levels were increasing. I'm sure everything is fine with your baby, especially if the doctor isn't worried. Hang in there

When I went for my six week appt the OB warned me right away not to panic if we didn't see anything b/c sometimes at six weeks it is still to early to see anything even a fetus. I know it's hard but try to just pray and wait it out.

Believe me, I understand that uncertainty and that sensation of "I'M ABOUT TO FREAK OUT" when I went in for my first U/S it was an abdominal ultrasound which I thought was pretty cool, I'd cried the night before wondering if there would be a lil sac and I'd be able to see. I didn't see a heartbeat but they did see the sac and the small little formation of the baby, they thought I was 8 weeks along, NOPE, I was 6w2d, and I had a LITERAL panic attack when I didn't see the baby's heartbeat. They explained that it was early. So don't stress you're just a little early like i was. Good luck on your Pregnancy!

Thank you all so much. My OB wasn't there so he won't get a report for a few days.  We are stationed (military) in a very small town in northeast North Dakota and my dr/hospital is 100 miles away. I just had to go to our local clinic for the u/s.  The tech didn't seem worried so I am assuming my dr. wouldn't be either. I'm going to try not to worry just yet.

How did they do your ultrasound? Outside, or inside? I had a transvaginal ultrasound at 6 weeks, 4 days, and they were just barely able to get a heartbeat that way. If they were doing your ultrasound from the outside (belly), they probably wouldn't get it at all at this point. Try not to worry, either way, if they didn't get it at 6 weeks, 4 days, it's still really early. The heart only really starts beating around that time anyway, and even 1 day can make all the difference. I'm sure it will be ticking away at your next appointment. Good luck!

With #1 I went in at 8 weeks and they saw NOTHING.

Enter long scary experience that resulted in the discovery that my date was THREE ENTIRE WEEKS OFF.

It can happen. I know that waiting and not knowing is incredibly stressful but hang in there!!

We heard and saw the hb at 5 weeks 5 days via a trans vaginals u/s. However, the tech said every baby is different and it is not unusual to not be able to see it that early. You also might have your dating off. We were a couple days off. I wouldn't worry. I am sure you will hear it soon!

The office called me today and the NP asked me if I seen what was happening on the monitor while I was there.  I told her yes and the tech told me. The NP told me that either it was too early or the baby stopped growing. Duh... Anyway, she gave me the option of bloodwork today and Monday to check my levels or another u/s on Tuesday.  I asked her what did she recommend and she won't tell me anything. WTH! She just kept saying that it was my choice.  Well, I know that it is my choice but I wanted a little guidance since I've never been in this situation before.  I told her to schedule me for another u/s.  I don't know if I made the right choice or not. My husband is out of town for work until Sat and he is really not impressed with this office.  If everything is o.k., I'm going to switch offices.
