DE update

Hi ladies!

Heard back from the DE nurse. Should be getting another profile to look at this week. More on the profile they sent us:  She has cycled with them 5x, one with no pregnancy but with frozen available.

6/10 - couple pregnant
11/09 couple pregnant from fresh and frozen
She had 3rd pregnancy in this time frame
11/04 couple pregnant
3/04 Couple pregnant

I still want to see another profile... I'm just not sure about this one....

I'll keep you updated.

Good Luck & bump dust to all!

  • I'm curious because this is a possible scenario for us if IVF with my own eggs doesn't work out for us  -- do you get info about things like the donor's ethnic background, appearance, genetic issues in her family, etc?  And are you trying to pick someone with similar stats to yours?  What other things would you look for in trying to select a donor?

Hope my questions aren't too nosey.

Sorry to butt in, but I can let you know about the process through my clinic (Cornell). The process can vary clinic to clinic.

We did not get to view the profiles and choose a donor, my clinic has an ED team that does the matching process. The team is made up of the coordinator, nurse, psychiatrist and maybe your doctor. At first I was a little let down about not choosing profiles, but I  think it worked out best for me so I didn't rush into decisions.

I started by filling out a profile of needs and wishes. Needs being something the donor had to possess and wishes being something I'd like but not a deal breaker if she didn't. I wanted a donor that was tall, 5'7" or taller, with brown hair since I'm tall with brown hair, and having or working towards a college education. Ethnicity wasn't as important to me since I'm such a mutt, but I was able to specify if I wanted to. I didn't want to get too specific because it would be a longer wait for a match. In the end, I lucked out because she has many similarities to me that I didn't put down as wishes like dimples, musical ability (we both play the piano and clarinet), and interests (We both enjoy crossword puzzles and walking).

Once the team selects a match, you are able to see the profile that contains her medical history, social history, family genetic history. I can't remember if it posted her results from the psych testing, but I know she did have to pass in order to be a donor. They also provide childhood photos if you wish to view them. Once you are given a profile, you have 24 hours to accept or pass. I was on the waiting list for 4 months when my match came in. We also did a shared cycle with another couple to split the cost.

  • Shy - that sounds really promising!  I hope you can get things moving.

For those interested in DE - feel free to check into the DE check in on the IF and IF Vets board on Tuesdays - you can get all your questions asked there - it's a good mix of those working on DE, pregnant via DE, and success with DE.

You can.  What other things would you look for in trying to select a donor?    From what I've learned from other DE ladies, it is a good idea to use a proven donor (someone who has donated before that resulted in pregnancy).  Some people it is important for the donor to be very similar to them, for others it doesn't matter at all.  This donor sounds pretty similar to me except she has hazel eyes and I have blue.

Hope my questions aren't too nosey.  Nope, I'm glad to be any help I can
