thoughts on our names...

We are narrowing down boy names-

We like Joseph and Moses. I know, both biblical- but Joseph is family name and I just think Moses is unique and cool. Too biblical? Thoughts?

Re: thoughts on our names...

  • I like Joesph cause you can call him Joe.  I'm not big on biblical names.

  • I like Joseph better.  Moses makes me feel like you're trying to be a Paltrow-Martin.

  • Definitely Joseph.  I'm even a fan of Biblical names myself, but Moses for some reason is a bit too much for me.

  • I prefer Joseph over Moses, but if you want biblical, I like Noah and Adam a lot!

  • I like Joseph a lot - it's classic and Joey is cute for a little boy.

Moses - TOTALLY NMS. It's a little TOO - ahhh - old testament.  And what would you call him? Mo?

  • I prefer Moses.  Joseph is WAY over done in my opinion. I know tons of Joes, Joeys, Josephs, etc.  I have never met a Moses and I think it's nice & unique - even if it is biblical.  I also love Noah, even though it's not one of your choices.

  • Our son's name is Moses and I absolutely love it. It suits him perfectly. I feel like so many Bible names are overdone, and I like that it's an uncommon name, but not one that sounds made up. I also like that you immediately make the connotation between him and the Bible character. With Luke or Joshua or other more common Bible names, you don't really think about the origin because you hear them all the time. That said, I don't know that you're actually going for a strong spiritual connection or if you just think it's a cool name, but we love it.

  • Definately Joseph! Moses is a bit too biblical IMO

  • I like Biblical names too, but I just can't warm up to Moses. All I can think of is Dwight's brother, Mose, off of The Office. I agree with PP's, that Joseph seems too overdone. If you could keep it as Joseph, it'd be one thing, but you know that at some point it's going to get shortened to Joe or Joey, and I really don't like those NN's.

If you're looking for other unique and cool biblical names that aren't overdone as much, you could try Caleb, Jeremy, Simon, Jonah or some of the 12 tribes names, like Asher or Levi.

You know, now that I think about it, maybe Moses also makes me think of Mennonites and names like Jedidiah. Maybe that's why it rubs me the wrong way?

  • Both are cool in their own way...i like when people pick unusual but real names, meaning not made up.  not that you are asking for other ideas, but how about Milo?  Kind of like moses, but loses the biblical aspect you seem a little iffy on
