3rd Trimester

Who's been given weight advice by their OB?

I'm sure I'm hearing this a little sterner than she meant it, 'cause I'm pretty self conscious about being fluffy to begin with.  My doc said "You're doing alright.  For this third trimester, let's aim more to the 1lb side of the 1-2lb per week range."

So I'm being hyper vigilant about avoiding snacks, and eating less, and doing more fruits & veggies instead of ice cream.

Just curious how many people get the range of weight recommendations from their doctors:

"You're underweight, eat more!"
"You're a little light, let's try for a little more calories"
"You're right on track!"
"You're a little hefty, let's back off a bit on food"
"Damn, biotch!  You's a heifer!"

  • I keep getting "you're doing great', or "you look great", but since I've gained so much, I really think my dr. just doesn't want to hurt my feelings.  I figure I'll just have to work out a little harder once DS is here.  Or BF for the next 10 years.

  • My doctors have not said a word to me this whole time.  I'm glad because I've gained 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks.  I don't know where it came from, but I think a lot of it is water.
  • For the first 5 months, my doctor was really happy with my weight gain (either not mentioning it at all or saying it was great!). At my 28 week appt. I was diagnosed with GD and gained the most that month. Now that I'm on a GD diet, I've been steady/losing weight for two weeks (just a couple pounds) which my doctor thought was good. Overall, I'm right on track (under 20 pounds at 30 weeks) and my dr. and nutritionist are happy with it.

  • The only thing the doctor has said to me hasn't been direct - I was asking about GD and he said "don't worry, it's not related to how much weight you've gained" or something like that.  I was like "uhhh... I wasn't."

The nurse is the one who always comments, and she just tells me that I'm doing fine.  I haven't asked how much I've gained yet though, I think I'm going to do that at the next appt.

  • At my last appointment - about 4 weeks ago - they said I had already gained 22 lbs!  Tongue Tied  I said that's not good - and his reply was that they prefer you stay between 25 and 35 lbs overall.  Well, in my opinion, that doesn't leave me very many more pounds and I have a ton of weeks left!  I go back on Wed., so we'll see what they say.  My opinion is, so long as I am not pigging out 24/7 - my weight gain will be what it is going to be.  I'll either work harder after the baby or I'll just weigh a few pounds more.

  • Mine said "Wow, that's quite a jump" for 7.5 lbs in 5 weeks. As of my last appt I had gained 27 (at 25w).  She went over my diet and activity levels and she thinks I might be having a huge baby.  I have my 1 hr test on Wednesday so that will hopefully rule out GD.

I am stressing, I wish she would just tell me not to worry and that I look great.

  • My ob hasn't said anything this whole time now if i can just keep a steady pace 1-2 lbs a week i know i'll be happy!
  • Last week was the first time my OB has mentioned weight and all she said was I had put on 1 lb more than she likes to normally see in a four-week period.  I mentioned I just got back from Hawaii on my "babymoon" and she started laughing and said she was amazed that it was only 1 lb then and that she would have put on more, so don't worry about it. Made me chuckle and feel a lot better, I have been trying to eat healthy and exercise but sometimes those damn McD fries call to me :)
  • i am 36 wks now and from the start she told me 2kg/ month. i actually got in trouble from her at the beginning b/c i lost about 7kg in the first tri. but the dr seems happy now and i haven't gained anything in the last month which she says is fine as long as his weight is continuing to go up.
