3rd Trimester

Anyone have an irritable uterus?

Can you tell me about your experience? Thanks :)

Re: Anyone have an irritable uterus?

  • I have NSTs done twice a week, and every time they say my uterus is irritable.  I am drinking lots of water, on bed rest, but for some reason my uterus is just pissed off.   Not sure what experience to share beyond that.

What symptoms do you have that made them diagnose you with IU? I'm asking because I was just put on bedrest last week because of PTL. I had PTL with my son, but with him I ha contractions every 2-3 min. With this pregnancy I am getting contractions when I am on my feet for more than the time it takes to take a shower. I asked my MIL about it (she's a midwife but not who I am seeing because she lives in another state) and she said that it sounds like I have an irritable uterus. I have my next dr appointment on the 22 so I have another whole week of bedrest, which sucks.
  • Pretty sure I do. I've been getting a lot of BH for quite some time now. At first, I thought it was normal.

Last Tues, they started to take on a very noticeable pattern (60s, 2.5 min apart) so I called and they told me to go in. It showed up on the monitor but my cervix was closed.

I had them off/on after that. Friday they started to pick up again, so I went in yet again. FFN was negative but I'm dilated a fingertip apparently. They just told me to take it easy, didn't really specify bedrest or give any meds. They mentioned IU as a possibility but didn't say for sure.

I see my OB tomorrow so I hope to find out more then. I get BH several times an hour, all day, every day. I have been avoiding sex with DH b/c they said it can make it worse (though they never actually said not to have sex, it's just uncomfortable enough as it is).

It is super annoying. If I followed the guidelines of when to go in based on # of BH, I would be in the hospital every day. I've had 2 NST lately and they said baby is doing great, so that's helped put my mind at ease but it is still stressful/draining.

  • i had contractions at 26 weeks - got a brethine shot - again had contractions at 32 weeks - got a brethine shot - from then on i was in the hospital a couple times a week with brethine - i had 3 hospital stays of at least 3 days at a time (max was 5 days) on magnesium. dilated to 3cm by 33 weeks. I ended up being put on a terbutaline pump at 33 weeks and also a contraction monitor 2x a day. I was taken off the pump at 36 weeks and deliver my son at 37w2d. :)

  • Hi. Not quite 3rd tri yet but lurking today :)

I have irritable uterus. I've had about 6 different "episodes" since 17 weeks where BH contrax have been "time-able", generally anywhere from 2 min - 5 min apart. They finally did a fFN test which came back negative and I'm not dilated at all and my cervix is still long. I've been given procardia to take whenever my contrax get out of control and don't go away by laying down, pushing fluids, peeing, etc. Over the weekend, I had contrax for 7 hours straight. They aren't painful, just uncomfortable and don't seem to go away without intervention. I find I have to rest a ton and get off my feet alot.

  • I have an irritable uterus. Starting@31 weeks, i have had consistent menstraul like cramping. I tested positive on the ffn test at 31w3d & was given the shots for baby's lungs. Two more l&d trips followed & they gave me turbutaline(sp?) Shots once ultrasound showed short cervix. I've been on modified bed rest since 31w3d & am so excited to be at almost 35w. They won't try to stop labor as of thursday & i can deliver @ my hospital w/ my doctor & dont have to go to the hospital w/ higher level nicu. As of next thursday i am cleared for all activities again. I am also optimistic that i am going to make it to full term.
