Lap and Clomid...WWYD? (Long)

Hi ladies,

I'm not a frequent poster, but I do learn so much from you ladies when I lurk, so thank you for all of your expertise!

We saw an RE for the first time last week.  Like my ob/gyn, he recommended that we do laparascopic surgery to diagnose/treat endo.  I have a small clot/cyst/endometrioma/or something on my left ovary that's been there for the three ultrasounds I've had in the last 5-6 weeks.  My RE said that it could be endo, and that the lap is the only way to know for sure.  Of course, I have other symptoms of endo that I've pretty much always considered to just be normal (heavy periods, terrible cramps, irregular periods, and now IF.)  Anyway, my understanding is the if it is endo, and it's showing up on my ovary via u/s, then it's a mod-severe case of endo.  Great.  But at least it would a diagnosis and something that could be treated.

Anyway, my real question is whether or not I should go ahead and start Clomid this cycle.  The lap is scheduled for CD 12-13, depending on when I finally get CD 1.  I typically O around day 18-21, but it's been as early as CD 15 and as late as CD 23.  I have no idea when I'll O on Clomid though, so I'm thinking that I'll wait to start Clomid until the next cycle.  I'm just so anxious to do something that might actually help us!  We did an unmedicated IUI last cycle, and I think that was a total waste.  I'm afraid that I won't be up for sex very soon after the lap, and we are not going to do an IUI this cycle anyway (leaving town for 5 days around the time I'll O.)  So would you just wait to start Clomid until after the Lap cycle?

Thank you if you made it this far!!

  • We have a few ladies dealing with endo on the board, so hopefully they can give you some good advice.  Personally, if it were me, I would hold off and not take the clomid until the next cycle -- I know it's frustrating to wait, but I'd want to take care of anything that might be interfering, like the endo, before taking the meds.  Good luck!

  • I would definitely wait.  I was put on BCPs prior to my lap to "shrink" everything.  But of course, I would ask my RE first.  Good luck!

  • Thanks, ladies!  I most likely will wait.  I think that doing both at the same time would be totally stressful!

  • You have to abstain for 2 weeks min after lap b/c your cervix is open and you can get an infection not to mention you will be hurting so, I would not take the clomid this cycle. Just have your lap and wait to start the clomid next cycle. Good luck.
  • I agree with everyone else on the waiting. You probably won't be ready for sex, and your body will still need t heal

    good luck
