about 30min after I BF DD she's in pain, gas I assume. She cries out sporadically in pain, cries for a while, then stops (like the gas pain subsides). Is quiet for a few min, even sleeps for a bit, then cries out again. She is in pain after almost every feeding, every day. But DS is fine. Just a little fussy sometimes (normal for newborn). She also doesn't poop regularly. Like once every 3 days. Today she had a little poo but the last time she had a decent poo was at the pedi Tuesday when pedi stuck her finger in her anus to loosen up the sphincter muscles.
I asked the pedi, who said it was OK to give 2 oz sterile water with 1/2 teaspoon of Karo syrup a day. This worked the first time to get her going but now...not so much. I've tried mylicon after every feeding today and she still gets real fussy. Like the mylicon does nothing so idk if I should continue giving it to her. But I'm trying to give it a chance to work.
She is BF and gets 1 BM bottle at night before bed w/a little formula to see if it will make her sleep longer.
I (selfishly, I know) don't want to cut dairy out of my diet without knowing for sure if that is the problem because it's a HUGE part of my diet and can take up to 3 weeks to see if that even works. The nurse said it's prob not anything I'm eating bec DS is fine...But what if DD is sensitive to something??
What else can I do? I hate HATE seeing her in pain. Forget the crying, babies cry I can take it...I can't stand seeing her in pain when nothing I do helps.
Re: DD cries out in pain...HELP (long)
I am so sorry, watching your baby be in pain is aweful!
I would start to cut out dairy, I know it will be hard, but I would want to know I tried EVERYTHING!
My pedi also suggested the water, and then miralax. DD only poops once every few days, but if it gets past day 3 we started to notice she is more fussy than normal. So we mix 1/4 teaspoon miralax with 1oz of her bottle (we split the bottle into two, so incase she doesn't finish we know the miralax got in her) It works within a few hours and she is so much happier!
Good Luck. It's terrible to feel like you can't help your baby.
Honestly, it sounds like what DD was dealing w/. We put her on soy for a couple of months, and it made a huge difference. We're just going back to milk based formula now.
You probably need to cut out the dairy, I'm sorry.
Man, I'm sorry. I really love dairy so I can imagine how incredibly hard it'll be. I hope cutting out the dairy helps!
I can't believe your babies are a month old already!
I would try cutting out the whole list then gradually adding things back (I think the list I had was dairy, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, garlic...).
For my DD it turned out to be really bad reflux, not sensitivity to what I was eating. But I had to try that route to know for sure. You never know, and while it will be hard to adjust your diet at first, I'd rather do that than not know... GL!!! I'm sorry your baby isn't feeling well...
Seriously!! My day goes like this:
Oatmeal (w/milk) or cereal w/milk
Yogurt (like 2 a day)
Pudding (like 2 a day)
Soup (made w/garlic powder)
PBJ or Tuna,
Meat and veggies for dinner but usually some kind of dairy!!!!!!!!
This is gonna suck.
No but she doesn't spit up...can it still be?
Silent reflux. I was pretty convinced DD had it. The pedi wouldn't treat it because she was gaining so well and was keeping her food down, but he agreed it was possible. But her case was never severe, if it exsisted at all.
She would make gasping/choking sounds after eating, and then would sort of "chew," my guess because the formula was coming back up a bit and she was feeling it in her mouth.
I would bring it up w/ your doc. It is possible.
But like I said, DD's real issue was lactose. The switch to soy made a big difference for her.
Thanks hun, I will
Today is day 1 of cutting out dairy and I already had butter on my toast.....Oops.
My LO has reflux and does not spit up, so keep track of her other reactiuons and talk to yor pedi.
If you cut out dairy (I did for almost a month), you could see a difference with a few days if that is it. I'd also try the mylicon before each feeding instead of after. Just a few things we tried that might help.
