3rd Trimester

Can't shave legs or tie shoes??

In my first trimester I recall a coworker telling me to "just wait" because there would come a time when I couldn't shave my legs or tie my own shoes. I'm 33 weeks today and so far I have no problem doing either.

Is anyone unable to tie their shoes or shave (in other words, can are you having trouble bending that way) and if so, how far along are you? I'm wondering if this happens in the last month or if it depends on your weight/size.

EDIT: I love flip flops too but what about tying your sneakers for the gym??

Re: Can't shave legs or tie shoes??

  • With DD I shaved and painted my toenails the day I was induced at 40 weeks 5 days. I am 29 weeks now but feel bigger than I was with her and am wondering how I will be closer to my due date.

  • I can still shave my legs.  I haven't really been wearing shoes that tie too much, but I was able to tie my sneakers last weekend.  The baby doesn't like it when I bend that way, but she can be uncomfortable for a few seconds.  :)

I've gained about 20-25 pounds (I think) - my doctor said it's been right on target and even a little low.

It's probably mostly affected by how you're shaped in general.

  • I'm a day overdue and I can still tie my own shoes and can still shave. It's a bit of a balancing act in the shower sometimes, and I miss spots, but I can still do it. The shoes though? Yeah, I can put them on, but with as hot as it's been, why bother? Flip flops all the way! I actually just trimmed and painted my toenails about an hour ago (neon green, of course, because green's lucky, right?? lol!). So no proiblems here, except a bit of laziness :-p

  • I shaved my legs just the other day and I can tie my shoes as well, it's just not very comfortable to do so.

  • I have had trouble since maybe 35 weeks or so, but more from pelvic pain than being unable to actually reach.  I'm rarely sore enough that I can't tie my shoes or something if I need to.  My bump is only just big enough that it's tricky to do my nails or get lotion on my feet evenly.  Shaving is totally fine, it's just more by feel than usual since I can't twist to see the back of my legs and I miss more spots.

  • This is baby# 5 and never had a problem with either. As far as wanting to not shave well different story.

Now if it had been seeing your shoes I haven't seen those since around 24 weeks.

  • I can it's just really uncomfortable, and as for shaving, I just don't really care anymore lol

  • I can still bend to shave my legs and am 38 weeks.  But our shower is a little small and it is always hard to get into a good shaving position in there, and now that is even harder.  I have taken to using our other bathroom that has a shower over a tub so I have a ledge to balance on a little more.  But I can still lace up my hiking boots too!

  • Neither are a problem for me, but I tend to bring my leg/foot to me, not the other way round.  I herniated a disc a couple years back and learned you're not really supposed to be bending straight down to do those things anyway because of the strain on your back.  So I shave with my foot on the shower ledge or wall, and I put on my shoes by sitting or placing my foot on something.

  • I'm not having a problem shaving my legs. My feet are so swollen I've given up on trying shoes (sandals all the way!!!), but I managed to do my toe nails last week. To be honest, I felt like I had completed some major feat of flexibility by getting them painted. I think its all about positioning - the foot has to be propped up.

  • I'm just shy of 38 weeks and I don't have any trouble tying shoes when I need to or shaving, and I'm still painting my own toes once a week. I'm sure it depends on baby's position/size since I have a friend who is 4 weeks behind me and can't even shave below her knees.

  • Well, I haven't tried tying shoes b/c I've only been wearing slip on shoes and flip flops.  But I still can shave my legs--not super easy by any means though.  But I can still do it.  I don't know how well I could do it without having something to prop my leg up with though.

  • Long pants and flip flops!!! ;)

We all get to that point sooner or later. I'm avoiding tennis shoes or shes with ties at the moment. Bending over to tie them makes me out of breath and tired! Shaving my bits is out of the question, but I'm still shaving my legs. I'm 5'2", so it's only a matter of time. My belly is getting bigger every day!

  • Ha, I guess my coworker was the exception! Good to know we are all still shaving ;)

As for the shoes, I'm also wearing  flip flops when I can, velcro flats at work (Privos rock!) but I work out regularly so I've got to tie those sneakers!

  • If I'm sitting I can pull my legs up to get to my feet and I can shave my legs. My bikini area is an entirely different story. It's a jungle down there.

  • Im 36 and few days and I have been having a hard time shaving my legs for weeks already.  My belly is very round (like a basketball) and low down and I think that has a lot to do with it.  Shaving my legs feels like trying to gymnastics.  I have to bend and twist to try to reach and in the end I just end up missing huge areas.  Its so frustrating.  I am thinking of having DH help me.  On the one hand I don't care about the leg hair anymore but sometimes I miss feeling like "a person" and then I try to shave my legs.

  • I think for me it's more a desire issue than an ability issue. I *can* tie shoes or paint my toenails, but I just haven't wanted to because it's slightly uncomfy. Shaving my legs isn't a problem, either. But then again, I'm still kinda small, so I may have a harder time in a few weeks!

  • I can shave just fine.  Also, I don't wear anything that has to be tied on my feet. Which is why I like being pregnant during the summer....FLIP FLOPS!  : )

  • I just painted my toenails last weekend, and I won't be doing it again.  I had a difficult time.  It is getting more challenging to shave my legs.  I am not sure how good of a job I will be doing from here on out, but I won't stop shaving.

  • 38 weeks and I can definitely still shave...and will until the end. Tying my shoes is a little simpler to do sitting down, but I'm in flip flops only lately since it's so warm here.
