Tattoo that represents children?

I really want to get a tattoo. One that represents my boys. I am getting in on my foot and don't want anything super colorful or flashy. Something more simple. I was thinking stars with their initials. But that seems almost TOO simple. Any ideas??

You could do their dates of birth?  DH wants to do a footprint or handprint which I think is cute but would be too big for me.  I just have one tiny tattoo now and if I ever got another one it would have to be very small..

I am getting My, DH's, and DD's (and future childrens) birth month flowers on my shoulder and upper arm.  Mine is an Iris, DH's Lily, and DD's is a Larkspur.

But something small..hmmm.. if you have a favorite animal you could get a little outline drawing of whatever it is for each one (I was going to do this, mine is an elephant), I think the stars would be cute and simple, even just their initials would be cute.  Or you could do something to represent what month they were born in like December-snowflake, september- leaf, etc.   Also I kind of liked the idea of a mothers anklet where you get a tattoo that looks like an anklet and have their birth stones tattooed onto it, you could even have their name as part of the chain like part of the anklet so it all flows together.

I have always considered getting a representation of what DD's mn means, but a) I'm sitting with the idea to see if I really want this on my body for the rest of my life and b) I don't think I am done having children yet, so I should probably wait until I am done.

I plan on getting a sun/moon amalgam representing me and DH and a star for each kiddo. I'm going to have one tinted pink and one blue (very subtly), and DS's a little bigger than DD's to show he's the big brother. I think stars would be cute, maybe do an outline of a star with their first initial in each star?
