It's a long shot that anyone will have advice for me on this, but we live in Ohio, a mile from the Michigan border, and have been hoping to move to MI for years. If we start the adoption process in OH, will that cause major problems if we move? I also wonder if we should just move to MI and then start the process... but all of my research has been about Ohio...
Is adoption very different between the states? Is there someplace I can learn more about the different laws, etc.?
TIA for your help.

Re: Adoption and moving out of state at the same time
We are going through this right now! We started working with an agency in AZ and we are now certified to adopt. Right when that happened, DH got a new job in NM so we're moving. Our agency is pulling some strings and allowing us to continue working with them. But, if that hadn't worked, I talked with a NM agency and they said that they could use our AZ homestudy and tweek it some so that we did not have to re-do everything that we have already completed.
So, you can probably start, but I would talk to a few agencies in both locations and make sure you know what you're getting into. You might find a MI agency that you can work with now, and then they'll just have to update your home study if you move....
