3rd Trimester

my stomach gets VERY hard sometimes

I don't know what this is.  I don't think it is BH because when it's hard it does not come and go.  It gets hard for many minutes/even hours, and I feel no movement from LO.  I also have been feeling pressure in my crotch area.  I am going to the doc today and want to tell her, I am just afraid she will send me to L&D again because my cervix is already open a little.

Any thoughts?

  • Talk to your doctor.  Would you rather not tell her and end up in an emergency situation, or tell her, maybe end up spending some time in L&D, and being reassured nothing is wrong?  Just my opinion.

  • I guess I don't understand what would be so wrong with going to L&D.  Better safe than sorry, right?

My stomach will get hard and I always thought it was BH contrax b/c they come and go. They have never lasted a few hours, though. I am talking seconds. It happened at my appt. yesterday and the doctor did get concerned b/c it looks like the baby is really sitting on my right side.  She was concerned about positioning of the baby. Does it look like the baby is sitting high up on one of your sides?  My doc did an u/s to make sure everything was okay and it was. I guess this LO just gets in weird positions and since I am small (her words - I look huge), it shows more.   I only say this b/c I didn't think the tightness/bulge out my side was any big deal, but I guess it could have been.  Good luck!

  • Definitely call your OB. If the hardness was coming and going, it would definitely be BH. Since it's not, you may want to get that checked out.

Also, you say your cervix is open a little.  I don't want to freak you our, but with a slightly dilated cervix, tightening of the belly, and pressure down low, you could be in the early stages of preterm labor. I would call. It can't hurt.
