Is my almost-3-year-old getting ready to give up her naps?

I've been dreading this for a while, but DD has started skipping some of her naps recently. I'd say once a week, she won't nap at all, but just lay there in her bed and sing songs or talk to herself. Then she'd demand that I take her out to go pee every so often. She's still getting a bit of a down time, but man, she's exhausted by her bedtime at 8pm! Is this the beginning of the end?

  • DD is 2.5 and rarely naps.  She will if we do something big that day (swimming..etc.)  If I need time to work, she will go in her room and "rest" for an hour but she doesn't fall asleep.  She plays quietly in there.  The plus is that she goes to be earlier.  When she was taking a nap, she wouldn't get sleepy until really late...but now she goes down at a decent hour (9ish).

  • Thanks for the input girls! I was thinking of just making her stay in her room for a while and have quiet time. I just hope she still naps at least most days for a while!

    Congrats on your pregnancy!!!  :)

Also, Larsen rarely naps anymore.  Once he starts back at daycare, I'm pretty sure he will, though, because he will be getting up earlier and all of the other kids take a nap at the same time.

  • My son naps probably 4-5 days per week.  He tried to stop all together, but he was a monster by 5pm, so we started reinstating it and so far so good.  On days when he doesn't nap he goes to bed about 1 hour earlier.  (He usually naps about 3 hours when he does take a nap.)

This is how we roll also.  I think it's normal to start skipping a couple naps/week (even though it's frustrating!) but still need the naps other days.  When his naps start to last a shorter time or when he starts to have difficulty falling asleep at night I'll consider skipping them alltogether, but I don't see that happening soon.
