If you buy off of craigslist

How leary are you?  I found a cabinet on CL today that would be absolutely perfect for my sewing/craft cabinet and it is a GREAT price.  It is in Charlotte though.  DH is so weireded out by CL because of the killings, etc.  He doesn't want me to look into it at all, and definitely doesn't want me going to Charlotte to meet a total stranger (like I have met some of you LOL).  Thoughts/Opinions/How do you buy off of CL?

I don't often buy on CL, but I've sold 4 or 5 things lately that people have come to my home to pickup. If I'm alone, I'm sure to let someone know when the sale is happening. I'll text DH X person is coming at 5:00 to look at the cabinet, if I don't call you by 5:15 - worry.

I guess I don't really worry, stuff happens everywhere all the time and I don't feel I'm being foolish.

we've bought several things off CL and sold a couple, but we always try to meet them in a public place.. which wouldn't be possible for a dresser/cabinet thingy.  and i never go alone, i always bring dh, who's a big guy and can look scary when he needs to lol.   we have gone to the person's house before, but like i said, try to meet in a public place when possible.  makes it safer for everyone really.  

always get their phone # and what kind of car they drive too if you're meeting them somewhere, but if you're going to their house, i'd be sure to get a phone #.

I've bought off CL, but I normally request to meet the person in a public place to look at the item/secure the purchase. I feel weird about going to some stranger's house...if I DO have to do that, then I ALWAYS take either DH or my dad with me.

I've bought and sold alot of things from CL.  I always try and meet in a public place, but have gone to people's houses and had people come to mine.  I'm always a little paranoid but so far so good :::knocks on wood::: 

The thing that annoys me the most, and happens pretty frequently is having someone say they want an item and then never show up and/or never call back...

we buy and sell on craigslist quite a bit. We never go to someone's house alone (we both go or we bring a friend) and we always let someone else know the address of where we will be and send a text to them when we're headed out of there.

And we never let anyone come over to buy something if both of us aren't at the house and again we let someone else know what's going on and let them know when everything is done.
