Boy am I regretting that...I broke LO's bedtime routine

LO has been climbing a lot lately.  I found him on the credenza under the TV yesterday.  (The TV is wall mounted.)  I figure it's only a matter of time before he's climbing out of the crib.

We have DS1's old crib mattress and toddler bed, so I set it up in LO's room yesterday while he was at daycare.  He saw it at bedtime and climbed right in, said night-night and put his head down.  Of course, then he giggled and popped back up.  We read stories on the toddler bed.  

When it came time to go to sleep, he didn't want to be alone in the toddler bed...and he didn't want to be in his crib either.  He usually cries for 5 minutes TOPS at bedtime.  He cried hard for 40 minutes.  I went back and forth from bed to crib a few times and then just had to leave him in the crib.  I totally broke his bedtime routine.  Ugggg!!!
