Babyproofing: decor?

Annabelle has decided to join the mobile babies club - she started crawling this week!  She's also been trying to pull up on everything she can reach. We've done some babyproofing already (gates, table edge guards, and outlet pluggers). But I have an aesthetics question:

What did you do (or will you do) with low-resting decor?  Things like candles, frames, vases, etc. that you might have on the coffee table, end tables, or bookcases?  I want to keep this stuff out of her reach, but I don't want to have completely bare surfaces, lol.  If you've moved this stuff out to babyproof, what's on your surfaces now?

Re: Babyproofing: decor?

  • We have bare surfaces. :) The only thing on our coffee table are the remotes and on the end tables are the lamps and picture frames. That's it. It's a hassle to take stuff off and put it back or risk him breaking something or hurting himself so it's bare for the time being.

Well, our current decor is pretty minimal already - our coffee table has just a jar candle (sitting on a marble base thingy). One end table has a glass hurricane filled with potpourri and a faux orchid in a planter. The other end table has a large ceramic vase with *** willows in it.  But even though it's minimal already, I don't want DD to pull/push the stuff down and break it or pull it on herself.

    lolol  too funny

griff isnt crawling yet but we're prepared...sorta.

DH put our coffee table in the basement actually (just for now).  on the side tables we only have picture frames.  we have books on the bottom shelves of our bookshelf but the PnP is infront of it so he wont get to them.  im only concerned about the dog bowls...

  • Back when the triplets went mobile we moved everything breakable, dangerous, or that we cared about out. We still haven't brought those things back....and probably won't any time soon. It's a little bare, but it's nice to not have to police the kids 24/7, or bombarde them with 'No' all day every day or have my stuff trashed.

  • I am going to put breakable things away.  We have a tall bookcase that I am going to put some of LO's books on the bottom shelves and put my stuff up on the higher shelves.  Speaking of which, I need to get on this- she started crawling this week!

  • Everything about about 3 feet up from the floor has been removed at our house.  My back room is just full of things that used to be out in my house. :)  Funny, the house used to be clean too!  Now, it's just covered with toys and cheerios.  Sigh.  It's just easier to have bare surfaces than to constantly be following around a kid.
