wwyd: switching school

So our school district just called to ask if we would be willing to switch DS school that he would go to.  Henning, where he would go has way more students in Kinder than Silver Creek and are trying to move some students over.  The bus will run as normal.  Part of me thinks to let him go to Silver Creek because they may have smaller class sizes. Also he has a friend from preschool going to that school. Whatever school we go with, they will keep him there the entire time.

So what would you do?  What sucks is that we have been preparing him to go to Henning and he is schedule to start next week.

  • I'd need more info to give you an opinion.  Are both schools the same distance? Do they both have the same services? Have you met the principals from both, what did you think?

All other things being equal I would for sure move my kid somewhere with a smaller class size- it makes a big difference.

I have not met personally met the other principal, but saw them at the kinder welcome meeting. they had all the principals there.

also the distance is only .5 mile farther.

I'd be hesitant because socializing in the community becomes critical as kiddos get older. His neighbors will be the ones on his sports teams, etc as he gets older. The other piece is that once they convince parents to make the switch the class sizes will no longer be great enough to be worth the switch.

the other kids in our subdivision either are older, like 10, or go to a private school.

Also, i have thought about the numbers shifting too much if too many parents agree. but i fear a lot wont and he will be in a classroom with a lot of students.
