** buying clothes- what do you do?**

So i went to get L some new things for fall and he's tall so lengthwise he measures in the 2t (OMG...) but weight he's still in the 18-24m and when I tried the 2t on him- it kind of hung- yes his diaper helps to keep it up but it looks  unkept...

how do you deal with the wonky sizes? I think he's a bit young for a belt especially with diaper changes and such...

also I'm going to a consignment sale tomorrow and I wanted to buy ahead- but now I'm aprehensive...esp since I know growth slows to around 2 and then they have another growth spurt then it slows again...

  • This is totally my problem!  Brianna wears lot of dresses to deal with this!  I have asked this in the past when it comes to Tyler, and it seems people prefer to see pants that are loose and baggy over ones that look like he may be waiting for the flood.  Most brands make pants with an adjustable waistband now, which helps but I think the pants look and feel aukward when you pull the waist in a lot.  I have ultimately found that exercise/wind type pants with a full elastic band all the way around the waist works best.  I have boxes and boxes of jeans and cargo pants that were never worn.  The elastic bad pants also really help out with potty training too since they are easy on and off.  This season is really going to be a challenge for us, looks like he needs a size 5 for length but 3T around, my kid is a bean pole.  I wish he would eat.
  • Yeah - it's hard when you have either a 2t or a 3t and they are all different scales. To help avoid Evan from looking too sloppy - if his pants are baggier then I put him in a smaller shirt and vice versa. So he often wears 3t pants (because he's tall) and 2t shirts.

But I find that the better fitting clothes are more $. We have no issues with fit from Baby Gap so that's where most of their clothes are from. We like the children's place too. Places like Walmart and even Target sometimes just have wonky sizing and baggy clothes...the pants are like sails and their shirts are wide and short - it's weird.

This is totally true!  My mom bought Brianna some pants from Walmart, they were her size but fit like capris.  I remember laughing one day when I tried a shirt on B from Walmart, I decided Dora must shop there because her tummy is always hanging out too!

  • I like buying Evan's pants from places that have the built in belt waistbands. I know a lot of Gap pants have them, and Old Navy. My mom bought him a bunch of OshKosh shorts and they all have them too.

These are the only bottoms I'll buy. He's always outgrowing the length before the waist. Most places have them starting at 2T.  Children's Place does have one of those brown leather weave belts that we had to use before we could get the pants with the adjustable waistbands.
