Lumpy breasts after weaning

I weaned my LO almost 6 weeks back after nursing him for almost 2 years. For the last 6 months of nursing, he was breastfeeding only from one breast since the other one was not producing enough. Anyway, a couple of days back when takinga shower i was just feeling around the breast he was weaned from and noticed a few bumps on the side near the armpit. I checked the other breast (the one with low supply) and there were no noticeable bumps there. I am just a little worried as to why one has them? is it because it has only been 6 weeks since being weaned from that breast? when i press that breast, ic an still see some milk coming out...i have a physical scheduled in a couple of days so i will ask the doctor but wanted to ask if anybody else experienced this?

Thanks!

Re: Lumpy breasts after weaning

  • When you press on the lumps, does milk come out?  Have you tried massaging the lumps while in the shower - a good "strong" massaging to see if it might just be some "stored" milk in some ducts?  Do the lumps hurt/sensitive?  I haven't weaned DD yet (still does morning and night), but when I was nursing her more frequently, I'd get lumps when she would drink as much as normal...

Good luck and ask your doc when you go if the massage doesn't help! Smile
