Talk to me about your BC

I'm on Enbrel injections and am not planning to try to get pregnant (ever) for a long time if at all.  I have to detox for 6 months before trying to get pregnant and am seriously freaked out about an accident.  I'm on the pill and have been for years but I would like something more permanent.  I looked into the implanon and my  insurance won't pay.  What are you girls on that you like?

Re: Talk to me about your BC

  • I have a paraguard IUD and love it. Lasts 10 years, as effective as a tubal (per my OB, although since getting it I've heard a few failure stories) but immediately reversible when we're ready (we want to TTC #3 in the next year). The only thought involved is that I check the strings periodically to make sure everything's fine.

The biggest draw to me is that I had a serious reaction to hormonal bc years ago and pre-eclampsia in both pregnancies, so hormonal options are off the table for me. Paraguard is non-hormonal while being highly effective, and is pretty much my only option because of that. Now that I know how my body feels not on hormones I'll never go back.

  • I went w/ Essure (permanent) BC followed with Novasure Ablation (stops menstrual cycle).  Both procedures were in office and took the dr approximately 12 minutes to complete. I was completely functional within 24 hrs.  My insurance didn't cover much either and I knew our family was complete.
