Hey ladies, first time mom question. What do you use for baby wipes for a newborn? I've read to just use a washcloth with water the first week or so, which is fine for #1, but what do you do about #2? I don't have that many washcloths and don't want to stain the ones I have with poop. Do you just buy "throw-away" washcloths for that purpose, or can you use a regular baby wipe for a #2?
Re: Newborn diaper wipes
I think it has to do with their skin being subject to getting VERY irritated the first week or so. Wipes are too harsh for the initial days.
yep. and the hospitals use wipes too.
Wipes are fine. Just make sure you get the ones marked sensitive.
This is good to know... I had gotten the impression from reading and classes that using a cotton pad or cloth with water was the norm and to use them as long as the first month. The wipes I bought are unscented and alcohol free anyway, but I bought a bunch of cotton squares too. So, I guess I'll just wait and see how I feel since it seems like everyone else did fine with wipes.
This was our experience with DS1 as well. I think we started using regular wipes by the 2nd week.
this. our hospital sent us home with more than enough for the first week. even the sensitive baby wipes can irritate LO's new skin.
My mom definitely didn't cloth diaper and she used washcloths instead of wipes for all 4 kids. Once other people in my family started having babies at an age when I was old enough to understand, i was surprised that people bought wipes to use!

Ditto, it was hard enough to clean it up with wipes, especially with legs flailing and all those d**n tags on baby's ankles getting in it. Yuck.
Our hospital used sensitive skin wipes from pampers and we are doing the same at home.
Same here.
Viva paper towels with warm water is what we will be using as suggested by our pediatrician and the baby nurse that taught our caring for newborns class.
Good luck
This.
